Most of the pictures here do NOT show the Gorge!!!! The entrance to it is clearly signposted and is exactly where you can see the water fountain. You pay 10 pounds entry per person, are greeted in a friendly manner and are given historical and technical background information about the exhibition. After visiting it, we continue along the river on steep paths to various waterfalls. This is very nice, especially if you're just passing through Lynmouth and only have time for a mini hike but still want to experience something. Or if you really want to get to know the place and are interested in technology and/or history. There are plenty of benches and picnic options, and the large parking lot with restrooms is just a few minutes from the entrance. Cafes and pubs are plentiful in Lynmouth.

Glen Lyn Gorge is a dramatic gorge near the mouth of the River Lyn near Lynmouth. Fantastic place to see waterfalls and learn about the history of the place. There is a small entrance fee.

Top 100 climbs 5 Dunkery Beacon This corner of Exmoor is hill-climbing heaven, with a pleathora of nasty roads to grind up and fly down. It's a job to single out one climb that sets itself apart from all the others, but the road heading away from Luccombe up to the Beacon is a beast. Leave the crossroads and head into thick forest. Ramping up straight away at 17% and winding across a steep cattle grid, the road heads upwards under the trees. With the opening stretch over, your legs will already be burning by the time the gradient affords you a brief rest. And then it climbs again - if you thought the first part was a trial, think again. A perfect stretch of unrelenting 17% gradient cuts its way through the gorse, turning left then right, steeper at each turn, before delivering you to the finale. Ahead, the road winds like a streamer dropped from a tall building, kinking left and right, left and right, steep all the way. You'll finish, consumed by fatigue, adjacent to a small stone car park.

The railway makes a fun challenge ride. Friends or family members can ride the train and you can race on the bike there and back with café stop in the middle.

Minehead station is the northern terminus of the West Somerset heritage railway. The railway runs from here south along the coast to Watchet and then south down the edge of the Quantock Hills to Bishops Lydeard near Taunton. There are regular steam and heritage diesel trains running throughout the year but check the website for timings. west-somerset-railway.co.uk

Pace yourself! It is a very long & steep hill with a max gradient of 14%. Stop for a breather on the flats if needs be :)

Sometimes it's the smallest things that restore one's faith in humanity. Cyclist's Rest is a small picnic area in a private field that is complete with bench and table and furnished with some of the finest views in Devon. All accessed via a hole in a beach hedge – blink and you'll miss it!

Wow. Amazing place, so many trails all over for all kind of fitness, so much to explore.

Steady, beautiful tree-lined 7km of climb with views back across the coast...remember to look up now and then & take in the views! Oh, and bring a £1 for the toll!

Don't be put off by the £1 bicycle toll (can be paid by cash or card and they only charge you once if your ride down and back up again)! Even if you fancy the challenge of the infamous Porlock Climb, then the toll road is well worth visiting. A blissfully quiet road that winds up from the town of Porlock towards Lynmouth. The gradient is gentle over the 5km (ish) road with the occaisional steep switchback.
