Bluebell woods are breathtaking to visit, but bluebells are sensitive plants and trampling can really leave its mark. Bluebell bulbs are easily damaged by trampling so they can’t produce enough energy to flower and reproduce in subsequent years. Areas of high footfall can even cause entire colonies to die out. Help us to look after them by sticking to paths and avoid treading on or near bluebell plants.

If you go down to the sunken garden between Sextons and the flower shop, you'll see the force of the water from the lower dam into Slitten Brook, and it flows into the Bridgewater canal

The Bridgewater Canal is 39 mile (65 km), between Runcorn and Leigh. It was built over 250 years ago and was an important transport link for years. The canal trade declined with the introduction of the railways. Today it's a leisure industry with a wonderful toe path to walk.

Open 24 hours a day with a variety of Picnic benches, outstanding water features, wildlife and heritage. The route links to the Trans Pennine Trail and there is a free public carpark if spaces are limited in Lymm village centre.

The Trans Pennine Trail is a 346km trail from Southport on the west coast across the Pennines to Hornsea on the east coast. It's designed to offer an exciting multi-user trail that generally follows rivers and canals and links up some of the towns and cities across the country. This means for runners any section will normally be fairly well surfaced, reasonably flat and car free. Bikes and horses are allowed to use most of it though, so you still need to watch out :-) This section follows the course of an old railway line through an avenue of trees. It's a great place to run with a bit of shelter and a fast surface.

The Bridgewater Canal is a historic 39-mile canal stretching from Runcorn to Leigh. Especially where it passes through areas of open countryside, the towpath offers flat, scenic, traffic-free running.

Set on the edge of the National Trust Dunham Massey estate, Dunham Woodhouses is a pretty village, well placed for a mid-run stop with a pub and ice-cream parlor.

The Trans Pennine Trail is a multi-user path linking the North Sea with the Irish Sea running 215 miles (346km) between Southport and Hornsea.

Great tearoom and quaint village. Nice stroll round the reservoir (about 30 minutes).

Open on a Sunday Morning for Coffee and cake when everything else is shut. Always been friendly and accomodating, even when we walk in soaking wet from a ride!
