West Mill Tor is an easy climb from the base of Yes Tor and offers fantastic views in all directions. A sizeable outcrop with various routes to climb to get to the top, varying from safe and simple to steep and trechuous. There is a small stream to cross at the base between Yes Tor and the ground can be waterlogged so will require abit of dry hopping or good footwear.

The ever so slightly smaller summit of High Willhays, Yes Tor feels grander due to the large granite outcrop. Standing beside the triangulation point atop of Yes Tor offers beautiful views in all directions. A must climb if hiking with the Meldon area.

Hart Tor is situated at the end of the paved road from White Bridge, as far as you can drive onto the moor here. Besides the rather unassuming rocky granite outcrop, there's a military hut here as it's also on the edge of the military firing area, so make sure you check firing times before heading out on your Tour: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dartmoor-firing-programme

A beautiful section of route 27 Granite Way where the trail opens up as you pass across the Meldon Viaduct. Views across show the undulating hills of the highest area within Dartmoor National park where High Willhays and Yes Tor are situated.

At 2,031 feet (619 m) Yes Tor is lower than neighbouring High Willhays, but it's arguably the better summit. The rocky summit tor is topped with a trig point, military shelter box and a flag pole used to mark when the range is in use. It's a great viewpoint in the northwestern edge of Dartmoor and a brilliant run destination.

Make sure to check out the military times. As drills are taken out here on certain days.

One of my favourite tors on the park for prominence and height. Feels more impressive than it's slightly greater neighbour hill willhays.

If you are hiking to Yes Tor, don't pass by West Mill Tor without a visit. It almost looks like the ruins of a castle and is very recognisable. The views from up here take you all the way across to Exmoor National Park in the north or south west to Yes Tor. Simply stunning.

Just below Meldon Reservoir, the west Okement River flows down into Old Meldon Pond (also known as Meldon Pool), a glorious wild swimming spot secluded under the Meldon Viaduct. Surprisingly the water is bright green; not due to algae but due to the minerals in the rock in this former limestone quarry. You'll find a car park nearby with a map and information board, and it's really close to the Granite Way cycle route. Do not confuse the clean and clear swimming pools in the river with the old quarry pool. The quarry pool is on private land with clearly posted no swimming signs. The water is up to 40m deep and due to the mineral content is opaque, it is a flooded quarry, not a river fed pond or pool. A few metres away there are pools within the river which used to house the water wheels used to power the quarry pumps. These pools are shallower, but still swimmable.

Legend tells of a couple out walking on the moor who encountered the local Pixies (Piskies) who brought down a mist to prevent them from finding their way. After much walking around in circles, the couple found a well and partook of the waters. This instantly broke the Piskies' spell, and they could make their way down to Okehampton. In gratitude, the couple erected a cross by the well, so that anyone could find it, take the water and dispel the Piskies' spells. The well itself is now covered in granite slabs, but the cross is still there.

When pitching up on Yes Tor always look at the wind profile and find a pitch as sheltered as possible. It can be an absolute wind tunnel when it wants to.

Yes Tor for me is one of the most impressive Tors in the park, while it is one of the highest it is also one of the windiest places you can find in the south west. It's trig point is one I always appreciate each time I visit.
