Picturesque freshwater lake. The largest freshwater lake in the Southwest. The lake has a large activity centre. Canoeing, fishing, archery and windsurfing amongst others. The centre also has a fantastic cafe serving quality freshly prepared food and drink.

This quaint village is where the rebels regrouped for the final battle in the 1549 Prayer Book Rebellion (Western Rebellion). The rebels rose up against the crown when it imposed the English language, undermining the existing local Cornish language. Rather more sedate these days, Sampford Courtenay is a wonderful little village with thatched cottages and buildings dating back hundreds of years.
