Set in a wooded valley in the heart of Dartmoor, Fernworthy supplies fresh drinking water to the towns and cities around the moor. The sloping, open grassland to the south of the water is a fantastic viewpoint and a great place from which to spot wildlife.

Well worth the hike up the hill to this beautiful spot. If you're lucky, Moorish Moments might be there. She makes the best cake and coffee.

Sometimes called Cawsand Beacon or Cosdon Hill, Cosdon Beacon was once thought to be the highest peak on Dartmoor. Willhayes has since taken the crown but that doesn't take away the immenseness of this spot. Bronze Age settlements have been found on the west of the hill and evidence of neolithic tools. It is peppered with cairns and kistvaens which shine a light on the historic importance of the site. On a clear day both the English and Bristol Channels can be see from high up here.

Fernworthy Reservoir's impressive dam is unmissable as you hike around the water. Made of stone with huge steps, it's particularly amazing when water is cascading over it. If you catch it on a dry day, it's even easier to see the huge amount of work that must've gone into it.

Best place in the world!

no bridge over the river- be cautious when crossing as rocks are very slippery. I'd recommend crossing on the narrower spot to the east

Beautiful walks but DO NOT LEAVE ANY VALUABLES IN THE CAR! It's a notorious break-in spot!
