A good wide gravel track for gravel/mountain bike, not really suitable for road bike. Great views.

The views from both Great Links and Brat Tor are incredible. On a clear day you can see both the North Coast and South Coast as well as Bodmin Moor. The River Lyd stepping stone crossing is nice but there is still a wooden bridge crossing if you are a little unsteady on your feet.

So if you're in the area and willing to pay the entrance fee, then you can take a look. If you don't see it, you're not missing much. It's really just a small area that's well worth seeing. But I have to be fair ☝️... ... the circular trail was closed because of a landslide. So we're missing half of the trail. Maybe the other half would have changed our minds. For people who spend a lot of time in nature, it's OK, nothing more. I hope I'm not lynched here now 😬🙈. There's really beautiful nature in Dartmoor and it's free too 😉.

Warning! Apparently there was a landslide, so the path along the river is closed. You can only get to the waterfall through the National Trust area. Entry fee is £11 per person! It's no longer a quiet place. Children play right by the waterfall, so you can't take any nice photos. It's a real shame! We would have liked to have known this before the hike. Then we definitely wouldn't have done it!!!

The first impression of this simple but solidly crafted small sacred monument from 1887 is powerful and imposing. The lonely stone cross can be seen from afar thanks to its exposed location. The ancient, venerable cross is a natural part of this environment and one could almost think that it is literally growing out of the rock from which it rises to a proud height.

A few lights in the tunnel brighten things up, but there are a few spots where visibility can be a little low.

The adventurous path through the gorge, past the White LaDy waterfall, the Tunnel Falls and the Devils Couldron is always worth it!

5월 30, 2023, Gem Bridge
Gem Bridge is closed for repairs until 4th June - no access for cyclists or pedestrians. There are small steps you can go down which locals said would allow you to cross but we're not from here so we weren't sure as there were no diversion signs at all. If cycling around the closure time ask locals about diversion before you get to the bridge just incase!

I think part of this ride at the moment is not open because of repairs along the route

Very fun, rough gravel road with a slight gradient. This area of Dartmoor is insanely beautiful and otherworldly. There are very few signs of human influence, save a few quaint relics from the old railway. No paving, no fences, no signs. Feels like you're on the Moon.

One of, if not the longest stretches of uninterrupted gravel you'll find on Dartmoor. Some gates to pass through on the Southern section leading into Burrator, but otherwise constant gravel/off-road riding.

One of the best gravel tracks ever! Make sure to have wide tires (>40mm) and ride on low pressure - your gravel bike and you won't forget this track. Come down from Princetown for the most fun!

Widgery Cross was erected on Bray Tor (also known as Brat Tor and Widgery Tor) by William Widgery to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. It is made from 10 courses of granite blocks and is the tallest cross on Dartmoor. The cross is almost 12ft 8 inches (3.86 metres) in height and has a span of 4ft 4 inches (1.32 metres), the words “W. Widgery, Fecit, Jubilee VR” are inscribed on the eastern side of the base stone. The cross is orientated on a east – west alignment. There is a free car park not far from the base of the Tor which can be reached by turning up a track which runs alongside the Dartmoor Inn on the A386. It is approximately a 40 minute walk to the top and very well worth the effort to see the wonderful views.
