A brilliant pub with great food on a really nice off-road route through this areas. Definitely worth the ride and stop to “rehydrate” and refuel. The tables outside are great for stopping, getting off the bike and recapping the ride.

The Fox & Duck pub overlooking the village green is as popular as it is scenic.

When cycling around Wallington on the bridlepaths, somehow I heard George Orwell used Manor Farm as the archetype for Animal Farm.

The section of the route including Kelshall runs along a chalk ridge with good views

Therfield is a pretty little village nestling in the serene Hertfordshire countryside. With traditional village green, historic buildings, and an excellent pub that serves food, it is a great place to stop for a moment.

Author George Orwell, best-known for his seminal novel ‘1984’, lived in this cottage between 1936-1940. Orwell married his fiancée, Eileen, in Wallington church and friends reported the first few months of his married life here were the happiest in his life. The writer loved the countryside in this area and spent much time exploring the trails.

incredibly cliché and all the better for it: pub, church, village green, 18c. houses and 19c. mansions, red phone box repurposed as a book exchange, next to the cricket field. This village is ideally located where nobody has any reason to drive to, making it an ideal destination for cyclists.
