The town of Enns was one of the first towns in Austria to have a town hall. Over time, it was located in three different locations. Today's town hall is a building from the 17th century with a mighty round bay window. The facade facing Mauthausnerstrasse has eight axes and is just as magnificently designed as the five-axis front on the town square.

The crossing is a nice change of pace during the tour and offers a great view. For those who usually only cycle over bridges, ferries are a very interesting option. The "Ennsegg" bike ferry connects the towns of Enns, St. Pantaleon-Erla, and Mauthausen across the Danube and is especially popular with cyclists on the Danube Cycle Path. It operates daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from May to September, and until 7:00 p.m. from June to August. Crossings take place at short intervals of about five to ten minutes, and up to twelve people and their bicycles can be transported at a time. The ferry offers a weatherproof crossing and is also suitable for groups. This makes it a practical and atmospheric way to cross the Danube and connect the cycle paths on both banks.

Enns is a worthwhile destination for a tour or for a detour off the main route. A beautiful little town with some sights. You can linger a while in this place, there is a lot to discover! It's worth it!👍🚴🏻♂️

The town square and the adjacent old town of Enns form a historically developed center with numerous burgher houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, whose facades display Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements. The landmark and focal point of the main square is the approximately 60-meter-high, freestanding town tower from the 16th century. In addition to the impressive rows of houses, other historical buildings such as Ennsegg Castle, the Lauriacum Museum with its Roman artifacts, and remnants of the old city fortifications also shape the townscape. As a result, the heart of Enns offers an atmospheric blend of history, architectural diversity, and vibrant urban life. The town claims to be the oldest city in Austria, a claim that is disputed. The town charter from 1212 is certainly the oldest surviving original document and can be viewed in the Enns Museum. Enns is the successor town of Lauriacum, which was granted city status in 212. Furthermore, Enns was the first Cittàslow city in Austria.

The Enns Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in Austria and connects Ennsdorf (Lower Austria) and Enns (Upper Austria) over the Enns River. The bridge also offers an impressive view of the old town of Enns. In May 1945, some of the last fighting in Austria took place at the Enns Bridge before Soviet and American soldiers shook hands here. The Enns Bridge also served as the backdrop for the film “Der Bockerer II” by Franz Antel with Karl Merkatz in the leading role. The film was about problems with escaping across the zone border during the occupation. The most important border post between “East” (Russia) and “West” (USA) was on the B1 at the Enns Bridge. The bridge had gained notoriety in Austria due to arrests and attacks during controls when crossing zones. Franz Antel therefore moved part of the plot of the film, shot in 1996, to the Enns Bridge. The “Russian hut” and the barriers were rebuilt and the film crew transformed Ennsdorf into a “little Hollywood”. The film, like the first part, became a classic. A crucifix was once placed in the middle of the old wooden bridges. That's why the steel bridge built in 1932 was equipped with a cross. In 2008, the Jesus sculpture was damaged during construction work. The crucifix has been repaired and renovated and invites you to briefly pray as you pass the bridge. (Photo Country Upper Austria)
