Pleasant if unexceptional little village. There's a pub but no cafe or shop.

It’s a great downhill section from the West to the East

Apparently the only complete windmill in Hertfordshire

I've always found this to be a more fun descent than a climb. After descending, at the bottom you can turn left to go to Great Chishill (highest point in Cambridgeshire) or turn right and visit Saffron Walden and link up with the 2014 TdF route.

Quintessential Cambridgeshire village, complete with thatched roofs and a small village green. Incredibly peaceful place to stop for a break after the gentle climb.

55m of gradient. A steady climb from the Royston Road junction at Clanver End before it kicks a bit after the right-left bend for the last 15m of gain. Going down, there are great panoramic views as you exit Arkesden just before the road drops and you can quickly pick up plenty of speed.

Just a couple of blink-and-you-miss-them cottages with a church. The road drops quickly into the village through a narrow, high-banked lane, which can make the uneven surface difficult to see if it's a bright day and you're wearing sunglasses.

Can be busy at weekends. Open 8.00-17.00 weekdays, 9.00-17.00 Sat, 10.00-15.00 Sun. Their flat white is called a ‘Nigel’ for reasons I didn’t ask.

Nice coffee stop with plenty of cake options and some hot food. Decent seating outside.

There's a nice bench opposite for a nice rest

The quietest route into Buntingford, avoiding all the traffic.

from Wyddial all the way to Buntingford, nice gentle downhill section

Nice straight descent through a tree-lined avenue.

Lovely village to cycle through.
