Great place for a break with a good assortment of sandwiches and cakes as well as farm produce. Plenty of seating outside if the weather is good.

This cafe has now changed management and is called Waffle and Coffee. Still has bike racks and outside seating although I did not see the bike locks last time I was there. Staff still great and the food is even better. Bacon and egg sandwich is very good. Coffee, Tea and cakes and of course waffles. Good clean toilets so well worth visiting as a rest stop.

Good pub for a stop - plenty of garden for bikes, plenty of real ales but no food just bar snacks. Also no tea or coffee last time I was there.

Congratulations, you've reached the highest point - for roadies - in the county (the actual county top is ~500m west of you at 147m in Roughway Wood, accessible by a bridleway for our gravel-loving compatriots).

I've always found this to be a more fun descent than a climb. After descending, at the bottom you can turn left to go to Great Chishill (highest point in Cambridgeshire) or turn right and visit Saffron Walden and link up with the 2014 TdF route.

Quintessential Cambridgeshire village, complete with thatched roofs and a small village green. Incredibly peaceful place to stop for a break after the gentle climb.

Fantastic view of Audley End House from Adam Bridge. Audley End is a 17th Century mansion that is known as a prodigy house, meaning that it is extra impressive. Often seen on TV on the likes of Antiques Roadshow, the house used to three times the size, if you can believe it. It's a fabulous view as you cycling past, and worth making a detour out of Saffron Walden for.

Trig point (139m) in a private garden but the owners might let you take a look if you ask nicely!

Bakery & farm shop with large selection of sweet and savoury cakes & bakes, as well as take-out coffee. Indoor seating is mostly upstairs so not ideal in cleats but there are plenty of picnic tables outside if it’s dry. Open 7am-4pm Mon-Sat, 9am-3pm Sun.

55m of gradient. A steady climb from the Royston Road junction at Clanver End before it kicks a bit after the right-left bend for the last 15m of gain. Going down, there are great panoramic views as you exit Arkesden just before the road drops and you can quickly pick up plenty of speed.
