Middle Staple Tor (Dartmoor) – A Wild Camp with Stunning Views I visited Staple Tor and wild camped on Middle Staple Tor during a recent bikepacking trip through Cornwall and Dartmoor. I pushed up from the nearby car park — a handy spot to pause for a refreshment before the final ascent. In good weather, the tors look deceptively close, but Middle Staple Tor sits just over 450m, and with a fully loaded rig, I ended up pushing most of the way. That effort was well worth it. The views from the top were incredible, offering a wide sweep of the surrounding moorland. I could see the weather rolling in from a distance, which gave me just enough time to dive into the tent before the rain and low visibility hit. A classic Dartmoor moment. The descent via the old quarryman’s path is short but enjoyable, leading back to the road toward Princetown — perfect for a hot breakfast and access to town facilities. A memorable spot for wild camping and a peaceful overnight on the moor. Tips: • Bring proper gear, footwear and prepare for pushing your bike up rocky paths • Keep an eye on the weather — it changes fast up there and is generally cooler even in summer • Ideal for wild camping with amazing sunrise views if you’re lucky with the weather

Pew Tor is a peak in Dartmoor National Park. The tor rises above the lowlands of Whitchurch and Plaster Downs above Tavistock. The tor has plenty of large boulders to climb around on to try and get the best views of the surrounding countryside, and is quite close to roads and parking, so makes a perfect scramble for those not wishing to walk too far.

Whilst it's not quite as grand as Great Staple Tor a few hundred metres north, Middle Staple Tor is still a worthy waymark affording some magnificent views across the Dartmoor landscape.

Beautiful Tor with great views. The rock formations are super cool and a great photo point and trig point to boot.

The Combestone Tor as well as many other rock formations in the Dartmoor National Park with its hills, moorland and wild sheep, cows and horses is of unforgettable beauty in good weather. There are some tourists, but because of the vastness that is not at all noticeable. You also pass lovely villages with sometimes only a few mostly old houses and small rivers with nice bridges. In addition, you are only a few tens of kilometers from the sea, which makes the region a true paradise.

I went to longaford tor when doing Crocken And Littaford Tors. I did Higher white And lower white tors on another day(on a more warm and clear day) , i walk into alot of bogs, recently a bog near The Trowlesworhy Tors, Bogs are super annoying!!!!! ( my face when i walk into a bog)😡

A must detour from the Quarryman's Path bridleway, enjoy the views down over Merrivale and the River Walkham valley to the south, with the similarly sized Roos Tor close-by to the north-east.

Tremendously nice view over the hilly landscape of Dartmoor - combined with the beautiful rock formations a perfect place for a break.

Dartmoor is home to more than 160 tors but Combestone Tor is one of the easiest to access by bike and car as the road passes right by. Not only is the tor a fantastically impressive jumble of granite rocks but it also offers tremendous views, particularly along the Dart Valley northwards. The view west is also excellent, with moorland and fields rolling off into the distance. You can scramble to the top of the rocks if you’ve got steady feet and will often find Dartmoor ponies roaming around the base.

Fantastic Tor with big views in all directions and cannot be mistaken due to the triangulation point on its highest outcrop. I almost always hike in from the North, coming from Postbridge which is a nice steady climb all the way to the base of this beautiful Tor. Also to be noted that the nice wide path allows pushchairs and I myself have pushed my 4 yo to the top of Bellever Tor so we could play on these rocks together.

I hiked up to Longaford via Littaford and onto Higher White, beautiful walk which gradually climbed up from Two Bridges. A lovely chain of Tors one after the other is very rewarding and Needless to say offers incredible views of the surrounding area.
