A stretch of road that presents itself as potentially being a bit dangerous, but is actually OK. It's an easier ride westbound, with the initial downhill and traffic are more wont to stay behind further along when you turn south and begin a minor climb. Eastbound isn't fun up the climb, with frustrated cars behind. It's the law that you get at least one up your jacksie here.

This beautiful tree-lined avenue is located along a quiet country road in White Roding. Look over to the west and you'll see a solitary tree standing tall amidst a sea of rapeseed flowers, a very lovely scene indeed.

A good stretch and even though I prefer to be on road, I use this when travelling northbound out of Harlow the summer, so as to avoid the climbs on the minor road to the east.

Much Hadham is one of the oldest and prettiest villages in Hertfordshire. It boasts no less than four Grade I-listed buildings: St Andrew's Parish Church, Much Hadham Hall, Moor Place and the boundary wall at Yewtree Farmhouse at Hadham Cross. If you're seeking food while on a hike here, there's the Bull Inn or the Hoops Inn at the nearby hamlet of Perry Green, home to the Henry Moore Foundation Estate. There's also a local convenience store on the main Tower Hill road.

A classic Essex village green and a nice place to pause for a break. The pub opposite is also pretty good.

Long and flowing gravel road through the fields - a nice alternative to the road nearby. Easily ridable on a road bike in all but awful weather conditions.

Good pub in a great location for a stop. Hatfield Heath is a picturesque green space perfect for a mid ride break... with or without a refreshing drink from the pub!

Round about here pause to take a look over the gate. At the right time of year you get this view with the bright yellow of the oilseed rape contrasting with a dramatic sky!

Luckily walkers/cyclists can walk on the verge on the western side.

Now permanently closed

Even in periods of not particularly heavy rain, this section floods. Luckily there is an elevated verge to walk/push your bike on.

Linking Basset's Lane to Norton Heath Road, can be a bit a quagmire in the winter. Some big rutts but mostly ridable. Best ridden from Bassett's to Norton Heath

Climbs south to north. Coming the other way would be very fast indeed! However, watch out for dog walkers!
