Donkey Lane is a walled lane leading down from the church towards the new burial ground. It was originally a church path but now it belongs to the Parish as a Public Footpath.

The road runs out here but there's a short stretch of coast path you can push the bike along over to the next headland where you can pick up asphalt road again rather than cutting back inland. Not advisable with cleats on though.

The earliest record of Diptford, mentioned as Bickham, appears in a Charter by King Aethelwulf in AD 847. By 962 AD, it was known as "Beoccan bricge" in King Edgar's charter. Diptford appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as a small settlement, giving its name to the "Hundred of Diptford," an administrative area in Devon. The village's name derives from the 'deep ford' on the River Avon. A church was built in 1226, expanded in the 15th century. Diptford's school opened in 1845 and became an academy in 2016. Despite limited expansion, Diptford remains a busy and popular village.

Noss Mayo is a hidden gem. Quiet, picturesque and on the waterside of the River Yealm, it is a wonderful place to visit or start a hike. You can take a ferry from here across to Newton Ferries or to the South West Coast Path on the other side of the estuary. There are two pubs, The Swan Inn and The Ship Inn. It is the perfect hideaway.

South Milton Sands is a large, pretty sandy beach. Great for some sand sprints. The coast path doesn't go down to the beach, but it's worth a detour if you aren't going for an FKT.

This American Sherman Tank was recovered from the sea in 1984. It is a memorial to those who lost their lives during exercise Tiger. Exercise Tiger was ill-fated with instances of friendly fire, miss managed communications and amidst the confusion German fast attack boats slipped in amongst the landing craft and sunk a couple. About 700 allies lost their lives here practising for the D-Day landings.

Okay, let’s talk about great food and fantastic service close to the SWCP…the White Hart Inn is a must visit place if you want to have a fine dining experience with service to match in a pub setting. We stayed here for two nights and it was by far the best dining experience we had on our walk this year. What at first appears to be a normal pub/inn on a busy street in Modbury turns out to be something rather special. We had a lovely meal but it was the service which really made the evening something to remember. Definitely recommend…you will need to book in advance!

St Michael and All Angels church is a grade 1 listed building. It was first built in 1431, rebuilding on the site of a previous church. The current church was then restored in 1874 and 1890.

A beautiful little cove, with great rock pools when the tide it out! Although there is great surf in the area, beware that there is a lot of rocks covering the cove which can be seen when the tide is out.

Slapton Ley is the largest natural freshwater lake in the south west, separated from the sea by a shingle beach. As a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) it was declared a National Nature Reserve (NNR) in 1993. The Nature Reserve is 1.5 miles long and covers over 490 acres of natural woodland, marshes and reedbed habitat, making it a wildlife haven for all types of birds and vegetation.

Beautiful large sandy beach with Thurlstone Rock arch and a National Trust cafe.

Beautiful sunsets here, can't recommend enough & the local bars & restaurants all good especially the pizza shack.

This is a nice place to sit and watch the world go by and there are plenty of places to refuel and rehydrate around the harbour Despite appearances, this isn't a river at all, its is a ria, and inlet from the sea created by a drowned valley.
