The road runs out here but there's a short stretch of coast path you can push the bike along over to the next headland where you can pick up asphalt road again rather than cutting back inland. Not advisable with cleats on though.

The climb isn't too steep, it's just a long constant grind.

A Beautiful, quiet villiage with two great pubs with plenty of outdoor seating.

The Dartmoor Way Cycle Route is a 90 mile-long circular route which winds its way around the natural beauty of Dartmoor National Park, linking hamlets, villages and towns along its length.

The village has an industrial past. A paper mill opened in 1829, and produced high quality hand-made paper until the late 20th century. An extension was opened in 1889, and has now been converted into holiday accommodation. Nearby on the quay is a restaurant-pub, the Maltsters Arms, once owned by the TV chef Keith Floyd

One of the nicest places on Earth.

Averton Gifford sits on the banks of the Avon Estuary and the road here gives a lovely view across the water. It's name is taken from the river and the family Giffard who once owned Avetone Manor. There is a pub, The Fisherman's Rest, plus a post office and community village shop.

Tuckenhay is a small hamlet of waterfront houses on Bow Creek. While small, there is still enough room for two pubs in Tuckenhay. Its history is in papermaking but now you are more likely to see passing kayaks and paddleboards on the tidal creek. Particularly beautiful in the Autumn when the riverbank is swathed in red and gold.

The coast road separates Slapton Sands and Slapton Ley, a National Nature Reserve on it's way between Slapton and Torcross. This road was built in 2002 after its predecessor was undermined by storms in 2001. In December 1943, around 3000 residents around this area were evacuated for 12 months for top secret D-Day landing practice on Slapton Sands, chosen for its similarity to Normandy beaches.

On the road between Blackpool and Stoke Fleming there is a beautiful view of Blackpool Sands. The beach itself is a sheltered spot, good for swimming or paddling and has lifeguards in the summer.

Beautiful view on the climb out of or descent into Torcross. You can see the narrow strip of land and beach which separates the lake from the sea.

St Gudula’s Cross and Well for centuries has been a place of pilgrimage. The waters are said to be good for weak eyes. St Gudala is the ancient patroness for the blind. The cross is thought to be 14th-century.

Take some time to coast into the town. Have a coffee and cake at any number of the lovely independent cafes.

Beautiful town on the river Dart hence the name. There's a steep decent on the main road in, be careful of too much speed as it hooks to the left at the bottom. It certainly will use up some brake block! There are other ways out of the town that are marginally less challenging! Alf Resco is a cool cafe at the bottom end of town.
