The Golden Hind in Brixham Harbour, is one of only two full sized replicas in the world of 16th century explorer and privateer Sir Francis Drake's famous ship. The Ship has been a feature of picturesque Brixham harbour for over fifty years, entertaining and educating thousands of visitors.

The road is currently closed to cars (June 2024) due to erosion. You can pass it using the raised walkway and avoid a long detour.

Great views across the bay to Torquay, with Exmouth in the distance Portland Bill just about visible on a good day.

The climb isn't too steep, it's just a long constant grind.

Dartmouth Castle was built in 1388 to protect the rich town's harbour against French raids. About a hundred years later the walls were strengthened, and the gun tower was added. This was the first coastal artillery installation in the UK. The castle was updated in the mid 1600s for the English civil war. It's been updated several times since then, and was used in the first and second world war. Today the castle is managed by English Heritage, it's open for visitors every day from 10:00 - 17:00. It's paid entry unless you're an English Heritage member.

Brixham Harbour boasts one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK — more than 100 fishing boats land and sell their catch here. The fisherman sell at the bustling fish market on the quayside, which has a viewing platform so visitors can view the activity. You find restaurants, bistros and pubs on the harbour, all of which selling wonderfully-fresh catch of the day.

Lovely hilly coastal road, quite a challenging ride and potentially busy at peak times, but always beautiful.

Dartmouth Castle is over 600 years old and perches beautifully on the clifftops overlooking the Dart Estuary. The castle is open to visitors and has plenty to see inside and out. Owned by English Heritage, there is also a tearoom and if you're tired, a ferry boat will take you from the castle to Dartmouth. Averton Gifford sits on the banks of the Avon Estuary and the road here gives a lovely view across the water. It's name is taken from the river and the family Giffard who once owned Avetone Manor. There is a pub, The Fisherman's Rest, plus a post office and community village shop.
