Such a towpath (known in German as a towpath or Leinpfad), which runs alongside the river or canal, was an essential part of the transport infrastructure in earlier times. Before ships could move by motor power, horses walked along the bank, pulling the boat against the current. This activity was called "treideln" in German, and thus the "treidelpfad" got its name. Where these paths – running directly along the bank – have survived to this day, they no longer serve their original purpose, but are still popular: namely, with hikers and cyclists.

Quite dull but this can be ridden across in summer

Towpath is usually in pretty good condition for most of the year. Probably not all suitable for a road bike but anything with 40mm or above tyres is going to be fine.

A great place to build into a run. A flat canal followed by a bit of ascent to the golden needle (an industrial sized sundial)

Look out for the gatehouse of this Benedictine nunnery as you travel up the high street.

A small secluded country park, with access for walkers, cyclists, and even a red mtb route, access to and from the canal tow path, and a cafe on site. Regular visitor here and always finding new trails on foot and wheel.

A nice park in the centre of Polesworth featuring a nature reserve, play area, and access to the canal. Theres always plenty of ducks to feed if you are taking the young ones.

A personal highlight of mine on any early morning walk, run or cycle.

A nice day walk

A must see for no other reason than its a giant coloured wheel, that and the cafe is less than 50 yards from here.

Lovely quiet walk down a hardly used canal footpath, plenty of boats, ducks, horses and even some llamas. Great spot to get away from it all for an hour.

Pooley Country Park Monument. It's a great country park with lots of surfaced trails in woodland and along canals. There's a huge car park (pay and display £2.50/day) childrens play area and tea shop. The country park is amazing a real hidden gem.
