It is not so common for a Christian place of worship – which encompasses the whole of heaven – to be dedicated to “ALL SAINTS”. Usually it is one (or occasionally two) named saints who hold the patronage of a church – and thus usually also of the parish or town in which it is located. But to find the origin of such a dedication, one has to go far back in history, because the model for this practice of dedication to ALL SAINTS can be seen as a pagan custom, according to which there were already central temples in pre-Christian times that were dedicated to all deities (PANTHEON). The probably most famous Pantheon, formerly a pagan temple and now a Christian place of worship, is located in the Italian capital.

8월 25, 2023, Victoria Park
Victoria Park, originally a section of farmland on the outskirts of the expanding spa town until the 1830s, saw its early days as part of the landscape. In the mid-19th century, it became the initial home of the Leamington Cricket Club. Substantial landscaping and redesigning efforts were undertaken in 1899 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.

Not a hint but here's some History you might find interesting. 😁 The Grand Union Canal is a waterway in England that was originally built to connect London and Birmingham. It was constructed in several phases over a period of more than 100 years, beginning in the late 18th century. Radford Road Bridge, also known as Bridge Number 35, is located on the canal in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. The section of the Grand Union Canal that includes Radford Road Bridge was first opened in 1799, as part of the Warwick and Napton Canal. This canal was designed to connect the town of Warwick with the Oxford Canal, which in turn provided a link to the rest of the country's canal network. In 1929, the Warwick and Napton Canal was purchased by the Grand Union Canal Company, which had been formed through the amalgamation of several smaller canal companies. The Grand Union Canal Company set about modernizing and upgrading the canal network, including widening the canal and constructing new bridges and locks. Radford Road Bridge was one of the structures that was rebuilt during this period of modernization. The original bridge was a narrow brick structure, but it was replaced in the early 1930s with a wider, steel-trussed bridge that could accommodate larger boats and barges. The new bridge was completed in 1932, and it still stands today as a testament to the engineering ingenuity of the time. Since its construction, Radford Road Bridge has been an important landmark on the Grand Union Canal, providing a crossing point for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. It is also a popular spot for boating enthusiasts, who can navigate the canal through the bridge's arches and enjoy the scenic surroundings of Leamington Spa.

Obelisk in pale grey granite erected in 1875 in recognition of Edward Willes' gift of Newbold Gardens (later renamed Jephson Gardens), Leamington Spa in 1846. Situated north of the Lake. Grade II listed. Obelisk. 1875. Grey granite obelisk on stone base. 3 steps to Neo-Gothic pedestal with pillars to angles with foliate capitals and arched panels carrying shields. Inscribed ‘Erected in honour of Edward Willes Esquire of Newbold Comyn to whom Leamington is indebted for the site of these gardens’. Edward Willes gave land for public gardens in 1836 as part of his Newbold Comyn development. They were known as Newbold Gardens until 1846 when renamed Jephson Gardens. Erected in 1875 and situated north of the Lake. Pale grey granite. Base of “Derbyshire stone” and other stones. Colour photographs on page 39 of 1. the obelisk and 2. the base with inscriptions (i) original 1875 “Erected in honour of Edward Willes Esquire of Newbold Comyn” and (ii) added in 1879 “To whom Leamington is indebted for the sites of these gardens”. Edward Willes gave various plots of land to the town. He placed covenants on his land by the river to preserve its open outlook, including the Newbold Gardens, former meadows which had been laid out in simply style around 1832 as walks for subscribers. The Willes family left Leamington in 1827. In 1846 Edward Willes, very ill, agreed to the neglected Gardens being acquired by the trustees and remodelled as a testimonial to Dr Jephson. From time to time the Leamington Spa Courier reminded its readers of the lack of any memorial to Mr Willes’ gifts. The Trustees of the Gardens finally obliged with an obelisk but refused to agree to any inscription which corrected the impression that had gained currency that the Gardens were the gift of Dr Jephson. When the obelisk was unveiled in 1875, the Courier pointed out that the plaque did not state why the obelisk had been erected. After Dr Jephson died in 1878 the Trustees offered no opposition to the addition of the second inscription referred to above.

4월 18, 2021, Pump Room Gardens Bandstand
The original Bandstand was manufactured in 1899 by Walter McFarlane & Co, of the Saracen Foundry, Glasgow, (item no 224 in their catalogue of iron goods.) Similar models were cast for many equally affluent towns up and down 19th century Britain. During restoration, amongst other things, ‘Lost Art’ discovered that under the 150 years’ worth of Paint, some cast iron sections were so badly corroded that the ironwork had deteriorated beyond repair. Those parts had to be copied, by casting identical sections, involving painstaking construction of replica moulds. Talking to camera, the restorers at ‘Lost Art’ expressed their enormous admiration for the men who manufactured the original pieces, and their own great pleasure in using their skills to restore and where needed, reproduce matching pieces.

Offchurch Lane crosses the canal at bridge 34, Butt Bridge. Offchurch Wharf, mainly used for stone, is on the offside below the lock. Radford Bottom Lock. There was stabling for 11 horses along with a lock house. The lock keeper is said to have sold sweets, vegetables and corn, whilst boating families would stop here sometimes to have babies with help from the local mid wife, despite both Warwick and Warneford Hospital being canalside.
