To build the railway here cretainly was a challenge for the engineers and builders - a lot of tunnels and slopes to overcome. In the end it looks great to see how the railway winds through this landscape.

A welcoming pub on the outskirts of Manton

The bit between Manton and the nature/bird watching centre appears to have been re-stoned with a very uncycle-friendly gravel. Too big piece size and not compacted down making it a bit scary for tyres less than 40mm I would say. As walkers and cyclists are only real users, it is unlikely to get better for years.

The garden can get rammed, don't worry, there's another pub a bit further on

The church dates from the 12th century and doesn't have a tower. The 14th-century south porch has a parvise not connected to the body of the church. It also has two scratch dials. There is a double bell-cote on top of the 13th-century west front. The nave is Norman and has a clerestory built in the 14th century. A poorbox dating from 1637 is near the bell-shaped font.

Dating from the 12th century, the church is essentially Norman with good examples of Norman carving in the chancel arch and the south door. Patterned columns support the doorway.

A very disappointing section of path. You literally can't see any of the nature reserve or nearby lagoons from the path. There was no access through the NR so I had little option but to go this way but it'd be best to avoid this bit unless you have no choice.

Great decent, watch out for the tree roots
