To build the railway here cretainly was a challenge for the engineers and builders - a lot of tunnels and slopes to overcome. In the end it looks great to see how the railway winds through this landscape.

Nice place to sit

The bit between Manton and the nature/bird watching centre appears to have been re-stoned with a very uncycle-friendly gravel. Too big piece size and not compacted down making it a bit scary for tyres less than 40mm I would say. As walkers and cyclists are only real users, it is unlikely to get better for years.

Keep your eye open for Rutland Sailing Club Open Day and get free sailing and trips out as well as a lovely traffic free ride.

The garden can get rammed, don't worry, there's another pub a bit further on

Great alternative to the always busy main road

Nice country pub with range of ales. Tables out front and plenty of space for bikes. Open all day but lunchtime food ends at 1430. Traditional pub grub. BUT they do have chicken wings as a small plate or starter. Good humoured staff as well. Good stopping point.

Visit for several reasons. Good cafe with nice food and cakes. Plenty of tables inside and outside in the garden. My pictures of outside tables are not very good it's much nicer than they show. Excellent toilets and bike parking. All this before entering the gardens and paying. But it's also worth visiting the gardens many of which have featured on the BBC.

A maze of quiet lanes to pedal around in the area. A lovely inn, but pricey; the kind of place to go to for a treat.

Decent amount of out door seating and loads of bike parking space.
