The last section of the Serpents Way was Rhododendrons and this section is heather - beautiful.

Generally really quiet and great for staying away from traffic.

A light and airy wood within the Chiddingfold Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest. Wildlife and birds thrive here, among them Tawny owls, lesser spotted Woodpeckers and Nightingales. A public bridleway connects with the Sussex Border Path.

The glorious woodland of Durford Heath was actually heathland, as the name suggests, until 150 years ago and some patches of heather are still evident. Then it was planted with oaks and coppiced regularly to provide charcoal for the iron industry. This area is now managed by the National Trust which, to maintain a variety of wildlife, has provided glades, wide tracks and clearings. We can now enjoy some glorious, light and sunny, mixed woodland, including some of the best examples of sessile oak in the south-east.

This is a fantastic cafe with excellent cakes and sausage rolls. Bike friendly with a bigger garden round the back where you can enjoy lovely views of the pick your own farm.

Brilliant Coffee & Cake does get crowded lunch time

A friendly cafe serving speciality teas and coffee, home-made cakes and delicious lunches using produce from the farm and local suppliers. The menu changes regularly with the seasons and all food is cooked on site. There is a relaxing atmosphere inside the Tea Barn with stunning views from the picture windows over the fields and countryside. At the rear there is a large garden with plenty of seating.

Lovely cafe at Durleighmarsh Farm. Seating out the back in the garden, accessible with bikes through a small gate to the left of the cafe building. Excellent sausage rolls.
