I stopped by again today and enjoyed my lunch on the bench in front of the hut.

The manor house is a striking viewpoint with a special charm and sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Its elevated position on the rock makes it an atmospheric rest and photo stop along the tour. A short stop here is particularly worthwhile because of the combination of natural scenery and impressive location.

Nice rest area, it's 2.3 km from Schlagl to here. The onward path to the Kummerbauerstadel was closed on January 31, 2026 due to weather damage.

A nice trail through the forest, but surefootedness is still required; it's quite steep. A rope is provided for stopping throughout the more difficult section. No sandals, toddlers, or strollers recommended!

The Kummerbauerstadl Alpine Inn is idyllically situated at approximately 1,100 meters above sea level on the edge of the forest between Semmering and Sonnwendstein, and is a popular stopover for hikers. The sunny terrace offers magnificent views of the Rax and Schneeberg mountains, while the inn itself offers traditional home-style cooking and a cozy atmosphere. A perfect place to recharge your batteries and enjoy the view.

The Homecoming Cross on the Göstritz Saddle serves as a silent memorial to the region's fallen soldiers—symbolically yet majestically erected on the pass between Semmering and Maria Schutz. Surrounded by open meadows and rustling forest, the spot offers a moment of reflection and remembrance. This vantage point marks a quiet zone during a day's hiking, ideal for a quiet, contemplative break.

The Große Otter is accessible to anyone with average fitness via paths that are not very technically demanding and offers a wonderful panoramic view from the summit.
