Beautiful Historical Church

Classic cafe stop in the area, always plenty of cyclists and places to put your bike.

Unfortunately you can't see much of the castle from the road. The best views are from further away, as you enter the village, where the top of the keep rises above the trees.

The northern end near Sturmer is narrow and twisting but the surface is fairly decent, especially as you climb away from the junction with the main road, but the road towards Steeple Bumpstead is in poor condition and covered in piles of loose sand and stones. One that’s better for the tourers than the roadies.

Spectacular Village in Suffolk

Go down the lane to the left of the main building to reach the garden and bike parking area behind. The front entrance is for drivers using the car park.

Cavendish is one of those achingly picturesque English villages, with a traditional green and quaint thatched cottages. There is a trio of pubs in the village centre where you can find a meal and a bed for the night. The Stour Valley Path passes through the village, as it follows the River Stour from source to sea.

Clare is a great village with nice bakeries and cafes, perfect for a mid-ride refuel. There’s a nice bench in the churchyard if you want to refuel alfresco.

Lovely location, great old buildings, independent cafe's, CO-OP for water etc.

Popular & spacious cyclists cafe with good range of cake. It has outside seating around the back and dedicated cycling racks.

While I can’t guarantee enormous (and possible erroneous) slices of carrot cake its always worth a punt!?

Menu is great and portions are huge (Bacon Sandwiches are the size of Flandrian Cobbles) also have gluten free options

Good for road cycling but do watch out for couple of patches of road withe potholes.

Highly cycling orientated, always have jugs of water outside and serves great food, especially their sausage rolls.

Watch out for the potholes, but enjoy the views. Amazing quiet lane, perfect in either direction.

Such a great mid-ride stop, where almost everything is made fresh on site or sourced locally, the cafe at the Blue Egg is a real institution for cyclists and a regular haunt for southern road cycling pros in the UK. It's open daily from 9am to 5pm, but closes at 4pm on a Sunday. Three days a week there's fresh sour dough bread so try and time your ride appropriately ;) The cafe also does its own super delicious, natural energy bars with dates, oats, and nuts so no excuses if your energy dwindles on a long ride.

Blue Egg cafe. Excellent food, lots of choice if you are coeliac, including beans on toast and cake. Warm welcome with bike parking.

A 900-year-old Norman keep, beautifully maintained. It costs to visit the castle (£8.50 for adults), but a quick glance from the comfort of your saddle won't go amiss!
