Brilliant pub with brilliant service

Very busy although no bikes out front when I went past, but someone was parking their horse. 🐴

Probably one of the best stretches of quite road in the county.

Relatively traffic-free cut across the southern edge of Colchester.

Semi-hidden turning off the main B1408 which drops you over the bypass into the new Legoland suburbs of Colchester. Better than the main roads.

You can just about catch a distant glimpse a few rooftops over the top of the roadside hedge.

A pleasant road offering some great views of the Stour valley, especially at the southern end where a couple of climbs provide panoramas. The view from The Lamarsh Lion free house is particularly good.

Lovely little descent from here into the town, but watch out for the climb out of the town as the route takes you into Dedham Vale AONB!

The village of Lamarsh is surrounded by gorgeous rolling pastures and boasts an attractive, Grade I-listed church. Built in the 12th century, the Friends of Holy Innocents Church is a beautiful, ancient building. Hungry or thirsty walkers can find relief in the 14th-century Lamarsh Lion, which is known as 'the Painter's Pub' due to its associations with John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough.

Not a big dip but swings you through a left/right at the bottom and steep enough to get you out of the saddle on the way up.

Located in the farmyard just off the road, with a shop as well as a cafe.

Pretty quiet lane for easy miles near St Albright's Church to the west of Colchester.

About as rolling as you can get in East Anglia

Newly reopened and as good as before. If you can, take bikes through to the rear of cafe for security.

This is a lovely quiet stretch of road that run along the river Stour and offers some gentle rolling inclines. It is about the best you will get in Suffolk for climbing.
