This deer sanctuary is home to a population of fallow deer and is located on the edge of Epping Forest. The sanctuary is part of Epping Forest's long history of deer conservation, dating back to medieval times when the forest was a royal hunting ground.

High Beach is a favourite viewpoint of the London outdoor community. Popular at weekends and on summer evenings with hikers, bikers and runners, there are some fantastic trails through the forest leading to High Beach. Very accessible by public transport from Loughton (Central Line trail) or Chingford (Overground). There is a pub and two cafe options nearby for refueling. Hiking in Epping Forest makes for a great day out from London.

This is such a fun little spot to stumble across on your walk. An oyster shack in a forest - who knew. Not only is it unique, but it also offers incredible food, particularly famous for their mango curried prawns - definitely a must-try. The atmosphere is very relaxed, so feel free to wander in with your walking gear and boots. The shack operates between Thursday and Sunday.

Epping Forest, straddling the border between Greater London and Essex, is renowned as one of England's most notable forests. Its ancient woodland harbours approximately 55,000 species of ancient trees, representing some of Europe's oldest living plants. Historically, it served as a hunting forest, reserved for the exclusive pursuit of the royal family and their guests. Today, it stands as a biodiversity hotspot, boasting a diverse array of wildlife including deer, foxes, rabbits, and badgers. Notable landmarks within its expanse include Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge, Chingford Plain, and the village of High Beach.

An Iron Age hill fort and camp now within Epping Forest. It would have been busier here in around 500BCE when the camp was inhabited. The earth works which are still visible consist of a low bank and ditch encircling about 10 acres (4 hectares), this would have been the edge of the main camp.
