Running through prom makes a nice stop on a route. It can be quite busy in the summer though.

Nice place to stop for a break with sea (well, estuary) views but be aware you can't ride your bike in the park proper.

Set beyond weeping willows on the banks of the River Chelmer, this gorgeous cottage is a quintessential piece of english countryside.

We mainly know about the Battle of Maldon (991 AD) due to a surviving fragment of Anglo-Saxon epic poetry. It tells how Ealdorman Byrhtnoth allowed a Viking army to cross the causeway from Northey Island, where they had landed, in order to engage them in pitched battle. Great walk along the promenade near Promenade Park. Bargetrust have a number of Thames Barges moored up right next to the promenade. Also number of cafés to visit. Good views across and down the River Blackwater .
