High elevation Hill mixed terrain of mud stones, an enjoyable scramble at times.

Oh it's constant... it just feels like it won't stop. Good footwear essential. avoid the black looking rocks. they are shiny and slippy by years of being stepped on. stick to the dirt.

This section of the trail from Black Rock Gate up to the southern ridge of Cheddar Gorge is steep and rocky. Very hard work to actually run up, but a good place to practice power walking up. In descent, you need grippy and cushioned shoes that you trust. Lots of fun but a bit scary in the wet.

A great climb! Very long, but nice and steady for the most part.

Classic Mendip climb. Just ride it!

This might not be so nice, depending on how confident/sure-footed you are, how much it’s rained, or whether you’re going down rather than up!

The river Avon trail connects Bristol and Pill and is a lovely alternative to the road cycleway. It can get a bit busy on weekends during the afternoons

A good cycle path for all but the skinniest of wheels and the right line has to be chosen in places. It's compacted gravel and dirt, so could get a bit boggy during or after wet weather. Lots of other users to be mindful of as well. There's some great views of the river, the cliffs and Clifton Suspension Bridge of course!

Nice gravelly path with options going up into Leigh Woods. Gets very wet at times, and sometimes the river comes up over the path! Lots of dog walkers and families at weekends so dont go mad!

Definitely need poles! Very steep in places, extremely rocky, and pretty slippy (with good boots on).

Climbing is far nicer than descending, particularly when it's busy....

A great descent, and that's from someone who doesn't particularly like descending!

Some great riding on the Mendips with some fine views. A must to ride through the impressive Cheddar gorge.

Sprawling across Somerset, the Mendip Hills are a chain of picturesque rolling limestone hills. One of the classic road climbs in the Mendips. There's still a good kick up after the second cattle grid so save some beans.

5.5% ave gradient for 3.5k

Look out for the famous 'Rock of Ages' on your right towards the bottom of the climb. It's a cleft in the rock face where an Anglican vicar called Augutus Toplady sheltered from a storm in 1776 and was inspired to write the hymn 'Rock of ages, cleft for me'.
