In the valley below Great Elm, a charming bridge crosses the Mells River, with a bench on the riverbank offering a peaceful spot to enjoy the views or take a refreshing dip. A layby on one side of the river provides convenient parking if you'd like to start your journey here.

Two great cafes in the village, all very picturesque

Ignore suggestions that you can 'open up' along this cycleway! It is well used by riders with young children, disabled people on buggies (especially towards the Radstock end), occasional horseriders as well as pedestrians with or without dogs. The southern half from Hatchet Hill to Great Elm is quieter, but watch out for encroaching stinging nettles in late summer!

Mells is a small pretty village in northeast Somerset. The streets feel old with several historically important buildings including the old church and manor house. The Talbot Inn is a great traditional country pub offering food, drinks and snacks from 11:00 - 23:00 Wed to Sun. The Walled Garden café and community plant nursery is open for cafe food and pizza from 11:00 - 16:00 Wed to Sun.

A continuation/prelude to the other highlight for Collier's Way. This is a super cycleway which is similar in nature to the cycleway between Bristol and Bath... but much quieter.

Mells walled garden is lovely, but the Talbot Inn is also good!

In the valley below Great Elm there is a little bridge crossing over the Mells River. On the bank of the river is a bench which is a perfect stop either to enjoy the scenery or take a little dip. On one side of the river is a layby for cars to park if you want to start your journey here. There are also public bins here so no excuse to #leavenotrace and keep the countryside litter-free.

Great walking route between Mells & Frome

Well used by locals for running, cycling and walking. Good surface most of the way. Be aware of kids and dogs off the lead. You can park at Great Elm, Mells, Kilmersdon and Radstock to access. Toilets at Radstock by the greenway and good pub in Mells if you head into the village 1 mile.

This is part of Cycle route 24 and follows the Colliers Way an old railway track bed. Some of the tracks are still to be seen in the undergrowth. The track passes through a deep cutting and is very quiet and picturesque

Quite cycling path which follows an old railway. Not too many walkers so you can open it up a little here without worrying about traffic.

Entrance into these big open fields where you can join onto a number of footpaths..

You pass through a 5 bar gate off Vallis road and out into these fields - from here you can head down to Vallis veg campsite or to the river which you can follow all the way to Mells.

This little chapel is beautiful - its one of the smallest in the country and is set in the middle of a small moat. Inside there is no electricity so services are held by candlelight and in the winter the building is kept warm with a log burner.

Through this gate are the Whatcombe fields a great place to feel like your in the countryside straight out of town. Popular with dog walkers and families.
