12월 30, 2024, View of Cheddar Gorge
A great drive through the Gorge, then park in one of the layby's and hike up either side of the Gorge to the top (pretty steep), where you get great views of Cheddar and the surrounding areas. Cheddar itself has a slightly Alpine Village feel to it.

6월 14, 2024, View of Cheddar Gorge
Stunning views across the plains of Somerset. can see for absolutely miles on a clear day. Don't be fooled in to thinking it's an easy route I have made. It really isn't. Proper footwear and even poles are recommended. Bring waterproofs as back up shelter, as there are not many places out of the gorge to shelter. Download the route to device also, there is no phone coverage the further in to the gorge you go.

Absolutely beautiful village. Lovely in summertime, some very old and lovely buildings, the Cheddar Reservoir is only a short walk away. I actually done a video on Axbridge on my YouTube channel, noggs4vlogs. https://youtube.com/@noggs4vlogs?si=2HMVCQK9oU6s_-I_

It says easy everywhere but make no mistake. A reasonable condition is necessary and certainly good shoes, especially in wet weather.

4월 4, 2023, Dolebury Warren Iron Age Hill Fort
Dolebury Warren is the site of an Iron Age hill fort and was also occupied during the Roman period. Today the site still has many earthworks to explore and bands of rock which may have been the foundations of walls. As a runner the ridgeline is fun to run with a not too steep ascent and fun descent whichever way you run it. The Limestone Link trail goes along the summit and it makes a good addition to a Beacon Batch loop from Burrington Combe.

4월 4, 2023, Black Down Summit (Beacon Batch)
Black Down is the highest area in the Mendips, the summit Beacon Batch stands at 325m offering great views north towards Bristol and south over Cheddar and the Mendips. The running is good with lots of ascent for the south and brilliant moorland trails. It can get a bit boggy around the edges in the winter but generally it drains well, and you can run here all year. The best routes are from Burrington Combe in the north or Cheddar in the south but there are loads of options.

At 325m high this is the highest point in the Mendips. It's a great summit with an ancient tumuli and trig point at the top. The ridge line trail stretching to the west from the summit offers wonderful fast running with awesome views in all directions. You can link the summit on a run from Cheddar, Burrington Combe or one of the local towns or villages.

At almost 400ft (122m) deep and 3 miles long, this is England’s largest gorge, and with its weathered crags and pinnacles, one of our most spectacular natural sites. It plays host to a varied community of specialized plants and wildlife. It has been named the "Finest Example of a Limestone Gorge in Britain” by the British Geological Survey. It is one of the special qualities of the Mendip Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Cheddar Gorge is Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for wildlife and geology, a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) with 5 sites of national archaeological importance designated within the Gorge
