The Lamb is a traditional roadside country pub, hotel and restaurant opposite the Tudor King John's Hunting Lodge museum in Axbridge. The Lamb was built in 1480 and serves great food and drink. Owned by Butcombe Brewery, the Lamb is on the Butcombe Trail, a 47 mile (75 km) circular pub crawl around the Mendip Hills.

Meare Fish House is a 14th-century building originally used as a fishery to the nearby Glastonbury Abbey. It's England's last monastery fishery building and is a great location to discover some of the area's fascinating local history.

Westhay Moor is one of the many important wetland reserves situated nearby to Glastonbury in Somerset. The reserve hosts a diverse range of wildlife and including marsh harriers, kingfishers, and a variety of waterfowl and wading birds, as well as otters, water voles, and several species of bats. If you love nature and wildlife then this is definitely the place for you.

Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve is a significant wetland situated just outside of Glastonbury in Somerset. There is a very diverse array of important wildlife species in this reserve, including the great white egret, a rare and majestic bird that was once extinct in the UK but has now made a comeback thanks to the reserve's conservation efforts. If you're interested in nature and wildlife, then this is an absolute must-see if visiting the Glastonbury area.

Ham Wall Nature reserve is an important wetland reserve just outside of Glastonbury in Somerset that hosts a wide variety of habitats and wildlife. Whilst strolling around the reserve, you may be lucky enough to spot some of the local residents, including otters, water voles, marsh harriers, and a variety of dragonflies and damselflies. The reserve is a perfect place to unwind and relax and a must-see if in the area.

Access to the paths from the Axbridge end is controlled via kissing gates, which you can't get through with a bike trailer or any other non-standard cycle. However wheelchairs or adapted cycles should be able to access the trails with a RADAR key.

There are A frame barriers at both ends of the trail over the NNR. Although these are wider than the barriers at Ham Wall they may restrict larger bikes, trailers, etc. Photos of barriers uploaded.

A super venue which houses a museum with very helpful staff (they stayed open late so we could take a look around after our walk). The village is very pretty with some very old properties and interesting history. The church is also worth a look around with some interesting memorials.

A charming village. The church is quite spectacular and there is a cafe right next to it. A better place to stop before taking on the gorge... and it's tourists!

In the flat expanse of the Somerset Levels, this is a great place to stop and admire the scenery. Look south east to see Glastonbury Tor and north to glimpse the Mendip Hills. A pill box built during the Second World War sits next to the road and the river, a historic reminder that this countryside wasn't always so serene.

A protected conservation site for wildlife managed by Bristol Water. Dating from the 1930s, Cheddar Reservoir has a capacity of 135 million gallons. The reservoir is supplied with water taken from the Cheddar Yeo river in Cheddar Gorge. It Panoramic views of the Somerset levels and Mendip Hills. Wildlife consists of Swans and various wildfowl, also visiting cormorants out for a spot of fishing. Very accessible walking route right around the edge of the lake.

Axbridge is a picturesque former market town on the southern fringe of the Mendip Hills. This small town has a medieval market square, narrow streets and old buildings, including timber framed buildings. These include some interesting Tudor houses and a 13th century parish church The flat moorland of the Axe Valley lies to the south of the town. In spite of the name, the River Axe is over a mile away in this direction. It is possible that the river once flowed closer to the town. The mediaeval town is strung out along its main street, on the road which links Cheddar to the coast.
