I always make time to pop in on my walks in this area as it is wonderfully calming and peaceful. I like to just sit and marvel at the talent of the architecture.

Stalbridge Market Cross is constructed using Ham Hill stone. The cross is dated from the 15th century and stands at an impressive 30 feet high.

For many, known as the ‘Cathedral of Dorset’ Founded by St. Aldhelm in AD 705, Sherborne Abbey has developed from a Saxon cathedral to one of England’s most beautiful parish churches. The abbey is a Grade I listed building. It has several distinct architectural styles throughout and well worth a visit.

Surrounded by countryside, Milborne Port is a gorgeous town. Within the village there is Ven house and the church of St John the Evangelist. It has a varied history, including being a mint town during the reign of Aethelraed II and Cnut.

A pretty little village ideal for a rest stop when hiking. The village church, St Peter's has a thirteenth-century nave and chancel, and a fourteenth-century tower. Oborne is a beautiful little village just north of Sherborne. Quaint cottages and the remains of the 17th century Old St Cuthbert Church can be seen, as well as amazing views across the Dorset countryside.

The gardens were opened as a public garden on 5 September 1906. There is a band stand in the middle of the gardens which is still used for concerts in the summer. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the gardens.

A good example of a 14th century church that has had little alteration over the last 500 years.

The boundary where Somerset and Dorset meet also marks a network of beautiful rolling country lanes.

This extraordinary church displays numerous styles of architecture, thanks to its exceptionally long history. Founded in 705 AD, the building has Saxon and Norman heritage but much of what you see today is the result of an extensive rebuild during the 15th century. Today the 'abbey' is a church, but it was once a cathedral and then an abbey.

This pretty, old mill was built in 1886 and ground flour. It sits next to the River Stour and, although its now a residential house, it retains a working waterwheel and the original baker's oven. While this is a private home, the Stour Valley Way passes by and it's hard to not be enrapt by its exquisite surroundings.
