A charming Grade II listed church situated in Mareham on the Hill in Lincolnshire, nearby to the town of Horncastle. Cycling is not permitted on the pathway to the church so you will need to dismount and push your bike for a short distance.

This trail follows the original path of the railway that linked the historic market town of Horncastle on the edge of the Wolds and Victorian resort of Woodhall Spa to the main line at Kirkstead. The line opened in 1855 with passenger trains stopping in 1952, with the line finally closing in 1971. Today the line is now a traffic free Spa Trail. Along the trail you will find interesting sculptures accompanied with stories about the line and its history.

This plant sculpture, ‘Nature Magnified’, is one of four similar works along the Spa Trail, a hiking and cycling path between Horncastle and Woodhall Spa. Forged from stainless steel, it is a particularly striking piece of art to admire.

This stainless steel Viking ship is one of a number of sculptures along the Spa Trail, a walking and cycling trail between Horncastle and Woodhall Spa. The sculpture pays homage to the Viking invaders who descended on this area of England.

Horncastle is a quintessentially-English market town in the Lincolnshire Wolds. Nestled between the River Bain and River Waring, the town has a wonderful selection of antique shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants, pubs, artisan shops and places to stay. As such, it is a great place to stop for a pit-stop or an overnight stay on hikes in the area. Be sure to check out St Mary’s Church near the marketplace, which dates to the 13th century.

St Andrew’s is a Grade II-listed church in the heart of Fulletby. While the fabric of the church dates to the 14th century, it was rebuilt in 1857. Inside, you can observe columns decorated with human heads, a 19th-century font and the remains of a 17th-century floor slab in the chancel.
