10월 7, 2025, Ham Hill War Memorial and Stone Circle
However, such war memorials, which one encounters so frequently along the way, regardless of nationality, language, or name, are always a testimony – still significant and relevant today – to the horrors of war and tyranny. They therefore all have two essential functions, and this continues anew for each generation: -1- To commemorate and remember the victims -2- To remind people of the need to maintain peace

1월 7, 2021, Ham Hill Quarry Earthworks
Ham Hill has been quarried for so many generations that it’s surprising there’s still a hill there at all. The local hamstone has a pretty honey yellow hue to it and many of the locals buildings, and indeed entire villages, have been built with it. The quarry has long been defunct and, left to nature’s own devices, it has become an intriguing landscape of grassy mounds. It’s fun to roam around, particularly if you have children in tow.

Up until the 16th century, a medieval village thrived in this valley with around 10 houses. The villagers farmed the landscape here, creating strip lynchets and quarrying hamstone. This valley and the site of the village remain historically important and you’ll find information boards with fascinating information.

2월 25, 2020, Ham Hill War Memorial and Stone Circle
Ham Hill affords wonderful views over Stoke-sub-Hamdon nestled in the countryside. The hill was quarried for local Ham Stone for many centuries and the 15-strong stone circle you find there was built by the Millennium Project to commemorate this. There is also a war memorial on the summit.

2월 25, 2020, St Michael's Tower on St Michael's Hill
St Michael's Hill affords breathtaking views over the village of Montacute and the serene Somerset countryside. On the summit, you find St Michael's Tower, a folly built in the 18th century. Shortly after the Norman Conquest of 1066, a castle was built on the summit. However, nothing remains of the castle today.

2월 25, 2020, Montacute House
Montacute House is a fine example of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture. The house was built under instruction of Sir Edward Phelips — a lawyer and politician who is famous for being a prosecutor in the trial of the Gunpowder Plotters — and was completed in 1601. The house is in the care of the National Trust. There is a cafe here, plus facilities.
