Great little museum lots of history

Pretty village. We were there for a medieval fair which was great fun for the kids, and having never seen a maypole dance I really enjoyed the display of several different dances - who knew there was a method to the ribbon twisting and lots of different patterns. Of course the jesters were the hit with all the kids!

No idea if it’s any good as it’s closed on Sundays. Oops

Ashburnham Place was a fine manor house until the mid-20th century. The landscape park with three lakes was created by the grandiose landscape architect Capability Brown. Today the property belongs to a Christian community that runs a restaurant with highly recommended organic food. The homemade bread is also very good.

The Battle of Hastings is one of the most famous battles in English History. It was actually fought here, in Battle, so named due to ts connection with Norman the Conqueror's defeat over King Harold in their fight for the English crown. Battle Abbey is said to have been built where it happened. The town also has a history of gunpowder production.
