Heading west from the Triscombe Stone, you will find yourself on a Saxon Army route, or ‘herepath’, known as King Alfred’s Way, marking his route to resist Viking invasion in the 9th century. Also known as The Drove Road, for centuries, the route was well-used by local farmers moving cattle and sheep to the market in Taunton.

The parish includes the tythings of S.-Borough, S.-Earl, and Hurcott, and the hamlets of S.-Door, Catsgore, Highbrooks, and Midney. There are places of worship for Independents and Wesleyans.

Black Hill is a mountain summit in the Ilfracombe to the Quantocks and Sidmouth region in the county of Somerset, England. Black Hill is 358 metres high with a prominence of 40 metres.
