John Merrick's Lake is one of numerous lakes within the Reedbed Nature Reserve. The reserve is a great place for birdwatching, with wildlife all around you.

Situated between Burrough on the Hill and Somerby, south of Melton Mowbray, Burrough Hill Country Park is a significant and well-preserved Iron Age hill fort. Besides its historical importance, the park provides diverse wildlife habitats and various areas for visitors. Once known for foxhunting and as the reputed birthplace of Stilton cheese, the area has transformed into a mix of arable, dairy, beef, and sheep farming today.

John Merrick's Lake is on the "Red Route", a loop of hard surfaced paths around the northernmost lake in Watermead Country Park. The red route paths are wheelchair and pushchair accessible. They're also shared with cyclists. John Merricks, was a silver Olympic medallist who competed in sailing events on a nearby lake as a schoolboy.

Iconic cycling cafe. Prices are steep!!

A lovely cycling-friendly cafe with a great cycling 'vibe' & memorabilia, spares & kit....and of course coffee and food. Ample space to park your car if you are using it as a starting point for a cycling tour of the local area.

Remains open EVERYDAY, the only day it closed was Christmas Day... staff super friendly.

Since being under new management has returned to being an excellent stopping point, good coffee, great cake... been open throughout all of lockdown providing a takeaway services.

With the River Soar flowing through its centre, Abbey Park is a lovely place to relax in the city. The park was opened in 1882 and has since become a popular green retreat. There are also plenty of historic sites to explore: the park is bounded by medieval walls and includes archeological sites of the former St Mary's Abbey and the ruined Cavendish House.

Great when it's open and if you don't mind shelling out top whack for coffee and a cake. The staff are friendly though.

This was used as the HQ of a time-trial I did, the cakes & drinks looked good. It would be a good cafe stop if you are riding in the area

Great cycling themed cafe serving high quality, reasonably priced, coffee and cake. They've got a boutique bike shop and loads of memorabilia about the place. Plus good bike storage, tools for use in an emergency, and a bottle refilling tap.

Fantastic bike shop and cafe in the middle of the Leicestershire countryside. The cafe serves a selection of coffees, shakes and cold drinks along with sports nutrition and plenty of delicious cakes. Bike shop sells mainly Giant/Liv bikes and components but also plenty of fun socks along with their own Racehub branded kit. The workshop is very knowledgeable and happy to help. There is also open water swimming available in the lake a few times a week.
