This is the Great Pit in Swithland Wood, a site shaped by centuries of slate quarrying, with origins tracing back to Roman times. The quarry was first officially recorded in the 1300s, with activity continuing until the 19th century. Due to the presence of deep water and sheer vertical walls, the quarry is extremely hazardous and completely closed to public access.

Cropston Reservoir lies in Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire, England. The dam and associated water works are in Cropston, while the bulk of the reservoir is in the neighbouring Newtown Linford parish. It was opened in May 1871 in a corner of Bradgate Park, a large expanse of open land northwest of Leicester.

Cropston Reservoir is a 100 acre trout fishery. The dam is 690 m long and rises to a height of 16 m at its highest point, which gives a water depth of up to 12 m. The reservoir was completed in 1870.

Swithland Wood is a small remnant of the original Charnwood Forest managed by part of the Bradgate Estate. As a small chunk of ancient woodland, Swithland consists of mature oak, birch, alder and lime with supports a rich variety of butterflies, moths and birds. This chunk of woodland is the type that would of previously covered all of the British mainland whilst groups of hunter gatherers moved through the landscape.

Thornton Reservoir is a small area of water situated on the edge of the National Forest in a peaceful and picturesque location. It offers a network of trails and footpaths around the reservoir and through the neighbouring woodland areas.

Friars Mill gets its name from the site which had been a Dominican Priory (the Black Friars). The main surviving building of a cluster of early industrial buildings, Friars Mill, dates from around 1794.

just be vigilant of glass along the canal paths as they seem to be in places especially approaching Bridges for some reason and near benches.

A track for everyone. It's got small bumps, big bumps, and everything in between. The main track is for MTBs and dirt jumpers, but there's an outside CX line that's fast, flowey and incredible fun. Head out here with kids, because everyone can ride this on any bike (I've jumped bits on my CX bike, and jumped everything on my MTB) Tonnes of fun to be had here. I did over 150 miles around the tiny circuit in 2020! Look forward to seeing you there.

still fun on a hard tail but definitely better suited to full suspension bikes. Make sure you have plenty of water, rough 7th gear on a 21 speed Carrera Kraken.

head to the new everrads brewery pick up the trail from there good ride canal track bit tight in spots but well worth the ride

With the River Soar flowing through its centre, Abbey Park is a lovely place to relax in the city. The park was opened in 1882 and has since become a popular green retreat. There are also plenty of historic sites to explore: the park is bounded by medieval walls and includes archeological sites of the former St Mary's Abbey and the ruined Cavendish House.

A nice place to stop and take five on the Grand Union canal.

Brilliant place to hike or bike around. I suggest incorparating Beacon Hill too.

Nice scenic ride around to reservoir itself, also has a forest section for those looking for a bit more of a challenge.
