A handy place to stop if the bonk threatens when riding the quiet lanes around here.

There is a reasonable view from the very quiet lane running from Owston through Maresfield to Twyford. Freight trains were using the viaduct until 1964 and the track was lifted soon after that.

Just a small diversion from the delightful but popular (ie busy) drive running along the south side of Bradgate Park.

Lovely quiet stretch though the road to the north is busy.

Constructed in 1714, this seven-arched packhorse bridge stands as a historical landmark. Only five arches are visible now. According to village records, it was built by by six men in nine days.

Ashby Folville is a lovely quiet Leicestershire village with pretty chestnut tree-lined lanes and a 1,000 year old church. The charming village pub serves good ales with pub grub to boot. Quite the spot to take a break. Head east on Folville Street to the heart of the village.

A piece of railway history to gaze upon as you steam past, footpaths and other roads surrounding if you want to further explore the old viaduct.

Bit of a challenging climb, measured up to 13% in places. Was even more challenging upon my first approached due to the cold, wind and sideways rain. Once you’re over the steepest part it’s not too bad. feels quite rewarding!

The road is unlit so just be prepared if taking this route during dark hours. Over all an enjoyable stretch of road from south croxton to other nearby villages. There is a short initial climb to make if approaching from south croxton. The road is single lane wide but almost every visit has been dead quiet and safe to ride. You can easily enjoy this road and surroundings without worry.

On the wonderfully named "Sludge Hall Hill", you will gain around 50m of elevation over an average gradient of around 7%. (Sludge Hall itself, despite the name is a rather lovely, private country house).

Cropston Reservoir is a 100 acre trout fishery. The dam is 690 m long and rises to a height of 16 m at its highest point, which gives a water depth of up to 12 m. The reservoir was completed in 1870.

Rothley Station is on the Great Central Railway, the UKs only mainline heritage railway. The station has been restored to how it would have looked in 1912, down to coal fires for heating and gas lamps for lighting. Offers a choice of tea rooms. Cycles can be carried on the trains for £3.

Ashby Folville is a delightful Leicestershire village characterised by its chestnut tree-lined lanes and 1,000 year old church, which is Grade I-listed. The local pub is full of countryside charm. As well as serving good pub grub at reasonable prices, the establishment has a definite games culture, with darts, pool and even skittles on offer.
