Take time to go off the trail to the bird hides and vantage points around the water. The route is best in spring before the nettles take over the path in summer!

Starting from the forestry commision car park, hed over the bridge and turn right. This will give you several options for forestry trails and if you head towards Lynford you can then pop on to the road for a short trip to Browns cafe.

The Stanton Downham Bridge was built during the first world war as a rail bridge to transport timber and logging machines. It's been a road bridge since about 1922. The bridge crosses the Little Ouse River.

The remains of Thetford Priory a really nice and reflective space to end a tour... or start one. Thetford really is a gravel gateway with the Peddars and Icknield way passing nearby and the Kings Forest near Brandon. The Priory is smaller than the much larger establishment at Castle Acre but still majestic. The Priory of Our Lady of Thetford was one of the largest and most important monasteries in medieval East Anglia. Founded in the early 12th century, for 400 years it was the burial place of the Earls and Dukes of Norfolk, and enjoyed their powerful protection. It was because of this that Thetford was one of the last monasteries to be suppressed when it surrendered to Henry VIII's commissioners in 1540. The extensive surviving remains include the lower walls of the church and cloister, together with the impressive shell of the prior's lodging and an almost complete 14th century gatehouse. https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/thetford-priory/history/

From recent (painful) experience... if riding for the first time definitely take it steady (especially sections with rocks). The Lime Burner Trail in general is great fun, but it definitely has the potential to suddenly and unexpectedly bite you!

Thompson Water and the common form an SSSI managed by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. It's a particularly important area for dragonflies and damselflies.

Possibly the most technical section of the Lime Burner Trail with it's general descent, tight turns, natural obstables, and short but steep climbs around trees.  If riding for the first time, take it steady and keep your eyes open as there are some fast changes in direction with trees that can quickly become a problem.

The bridge makes an appearance in Dad’s Army series 5 “Brain Versus Brawn”.

A ruin from medieval rabbit farming, Thetford Warren Lodge is a heavily defended house where the rabbit warrener would have lived. As rabbit fur was so valuable, both the occupants and their wares would have been targeted by poachers. Rabbits were still farmed here as recently as the early 20th century.

Santon Downham bridge was built around the start of the First World War by the Canadian army, although a bridge has been on this site since at least the 17th Century. Originally it carried a 3ft gauge railway. The diamond pattern ironwork makes for an attractive crossing over the Little Ouse River. Plans were drawn up to replace it in the 1990's, but were opposed by locals, who liked it just the way it is.

If you plan on having a dog with you, then double check where you can take it around Thompson Water. The main footpath that runs beside Thompson Water is Peddar's Way, so dogs are allowed there, but the rest of the reserve is owned by Norfolk Wildlife Trust and some areas are dog free zones at some points of the year.
