A very beautiful and varied cycle path along the Gera river.

The Franciscans (called "Barefoot Friars" because of their bare feet) settled in Erfurt as early as 1224 – it was one of their first establishments in the German-speaking world. Construction of the present church began after a city fire in 1291. The chancel was consecrated in 1316, while the nave was not completed until the early 15th century. The church is a three-aisled basilica with pillars. Typical of the mendicant order is the absence of a grand west tower; instead, it has a slender roof lantern (and a small tower on the north side).

A hall church from the 12th century. The south tower dates back to 1400. Inside, there's a baptismal angel from the 18th century.

The Protestant Trinity Church in Holzhausen was built around 1480. Until the Reformation, it was called St. Wigbert's Church. In 1788, it received Rococo-style galleries, an organ in 1798, and an extension to the tower in 1818.

The district of Friedrichsdorf was founded in 1780 as a small colony by the agricultural inspector Neithardt von Gneisenau on the orders of the Archbishop of Mainz and sovereign Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal.
