Ravensthorpe reservoir and weir was built in 1890 to supply water to Northampton. Today you can wander around the beautiful water source and enjoy bird-watching, fishing, or just an opportunity to get some fresh air.

Built around 1702, a great example of Queen Anne architecture. Supposedly the inspiration for Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, the house and grounds are well worth stopping by. The award winning gardens in particular are spectacular.

Built to supply water to the nearby Grand Union Canal, Welford and Sulby Reservoirs are wonderfully scenic. Keep your eyes peeled for carp beneath the surface. A loop of Welford Reservoir is an easy walk from nearby Welford, where there are also peaceful walking options along the canal.

The route takes you to Blue barns farm then right, then left, to ascend the hill the "easy way" - it is a bit of a climb but not too steep. If you want to make life difficult for yourself go straight on at Blue Barns Farm and directly up the hill on the Bridleway. You miss a bit out but get a good workout. Not only is the path steep in places it is also cut up by horses. In wet weather it is a very difficult ascent due to slippery mud. In summer, when it is baked hard your wheels drop into the indentations left by horse's hooves, providing a tiring, very slow stop-go progress. Of course you could do the ride the other way round and descend the steep bit but be careful, it is very bumpy and the adverse camber tends to steer you toward the big tree on the left, about halfway down. There are also longitudinal cracks in the trail which might trap narrow wheels. great views over the valley from the top.

A couple of unusual buildings that appear to be modelled on gatehouses to some Country Estate - no idea what they are all about. They look suspiciously like Follies but, I am informed, if someone lives in them they are referred to as Whimseys .
