10월 25, 2025, Church of Saint Michael, Linby
The Parish Church was probably built in the late part of the 12th century, possibly on the site of the church hinted at in Domesday, the earlier building most likely of wattle and daub. The present church has traces of Norman work in the north and east walls which are two and a half feet thick. It is built of local limestone, with stones of handy sizes not laid in horizontal courses. Originally it was a plain rectangular building consisting of chancel, nave and a small tower. At some time in the XIV century a south aisle was added, and in the next century the porch was built. At the same time as the porch another stage was added to the tower, which is square, pinnacled, and unbuttressed. At some later date the porch was moved from the south to the north side of the church, its old position still clearly marked on the outside of the south wall. Another alteration visible from the exterior, and also on the south, is the blocked up 'Priest's Doorway' in the south wall of the chancel.

11월 10, 2024, Newstead Abbey
Newstead Abbey, located in Nottinghamshire, England, originally served as an Augustinian priory. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries, it was converted into a private residence. Today, it is most renowned as the ancestral home of Lord Byron. The priory of St. Mary of Newstead, established by King Henry II of England around 1170, was a house for Augustinian Canons. Despite its present name, Newstead was never an abbey but rather a priory.

3월 27, 2024, Papplewick Trail, Moor Pond Woods
Small but pretty little trail around the elaborate 18th Century water-management system to control the water from the River Leen, used to power several local Cotton Mills. "Castle Mill" now a private house on site, was one of them. Moor Pond Woods was used as a reservoir.

2월 12, 2024, Boatswain's Monument at Newstead Abbey
When Byron's beloved dog Boatswain died of Rabies in 1808, Byron commissioned a monument for his dog to be built on the grounds of Newstead Abbey, the ancestral Byron family home located in Nottinghamshire, England. The monument has a crypt beneath it, where Boatswain's body was interred and where Byron intended his own corpse to be placed when he died. Lord Byron is buried in St. Mary Magdalene Church, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire,

Sansom Woods have great easy walking paths, criss-crossing throughout them. One of the scenic routes leads to / from Burntstump Hill and follows the edge of the wood with views out over the Nottinghamshire hills, finishing up here at the ponds, or you can extend your walk from here into Blidworth Bottoms woods.

Entry to Newstead Abbey from Ravenshead / Nottingham Rd side there is a sign showing a charge for bikes as well as cars. However, just cycle through, even if the attendant is collecting money from car driver's. I've been through many times never challenged. If challenged say you're just passing through to Annesley!

12월 24, 2022, Fountain Dale Ponds
CLAIMED TO BE THE LEGENDARY location where Robin Hood met the feisty Friar Tuck in the famous folktale, the overgrown remains of a 12th-century moat, lodge, and holy well complex persist in this soggy corner of Sherwood Forest. Fountain Dale’s ancient moat is an impressive waterlogged ditch, 40 feet wide, enclosing what was once a large rectangular artificial island. The feature dates to at least 1251, when the moated island was the site of a hunting lodge, the vestiges of which remain hidden beneath centuries of mud and undergrowth. To date, little archaeological investigation at the site has been carried out. This said, the remains of the medieval manse are likely to be well preserved, having remained unusually undisturbed. The moat and its structures are listed as a Scheduled Monument of National Importance by the public heritage organization Historic England.
