A convenient stop with easy access to toilets and great ice cream. It’s ideal for a quick refill, though be prepared for long queues at the counter. The paninis and sandwiches aren’t the best, but it serves its purpose.

Great flat pice of road inside Salcey Forest.

This bridge spans both the River Nene and the Grand Union Canal on Northampton's southeastern side. The area is surrounded by lush greenery, and they are plenty of connecting cycle paths making it an ideal spot for scenic rides.

Opened on 1st May 1815, the Northampton Arm of the Grand Union Canal includes 17 locks and connects the canal with the River Nene in Northampton.

Fairly popular cafe for Salcey Forest walkers and wheelers alike. Plenty of outdoor seating for nice days (or if you're a bit muddy from the forest!) and there's a bike hire centre too. https://groundscafe.uk/salcey/

A lovely coffee and exceptional cannoli. There is a cycle rack across the road in the market carpark, which is visible from the cafe tables on the street. I will be returning here again :)

Great easy 5 mile gravel loop

Olney is a beautiful market town on the River Great Ouse. Its picturesque streets are a great place for a mooch, with independent shops, charming cafes and traditional pubs. Just to the south of the town is excellent walking in Emberton Country Park and its pretty lakes. The town is well known for the Olney Pancake Race, which first took place in 1445. Every year, on Shrove Tuesday, the women of Olney run and flip their pancakes over a fixed distance, all while dressed as 'traditional housewives'.

This is the church where curate John Newton wrote the hymn Amazing Grace. His grave is in the churchyard.

Watch out for the cars at the crossroads!

Might not be much to look at to the uninitiated, but it's an interesting piece of engineering going on here to cram everything in... as well as the canal lock with it's wall art, look up and you have Britain's first motorway passing directly over you head - junction 15a of the M1. Also a handy place to wait out the rain!

A shady place to stop for a picnic when the sun is out.

Unusually shaped church that seems to have been extended more than once, sitting in well kept grounds that lead directly from the road.

Beautiful old church and small but well kept graveyard and grounds, looked great in the sunshine and I'm sure the stained glass would be very impressive from the inside on a day like today.

Might be worth preparing yourself for all the nettles as i'm still feeling the sting 6 hours later. Wear some joggers as the bottom section is overgrown and hanging into the path, there are also a few brambles to negotiate but it's pretty much all downhill and there are some nice rooty sections to get a bit more technical.

Pretty easy riding and scenic route round the edge of forest on a road ride.

look out for the field of ponies to the right, if you're lucky you may just see the latest members of the herd. On a hot day you'll see the little ones lounging around.
