Best way in to Ruthin from Chester.

Would recommend heading from Wales into England at sunset. Riding into the setting sun in such a tranquil spot

Space for parking and a picnic table. Also toilets! Good walks along the river especially northwards towards Chester.

Savage climb for which I’d recommend at least a 32t on rear. Oh and not doing it on a loaded bike😫 But what a view! And very few cars. Always a bonus. Relatively narrow tarmac. Bit gravelly nearer the bottom but gets smooth and dry once above the trees.

The River Dee round is a surfaced, traffic-free loop of 15 miles (24 km). It follows the National Cycle Network Route 5 to the west of the city as far as Hawarden Bridge, returning via the riverside cycle path along the River Dee.

A great place to stop off with a great view of the river Dee. There's toilets right by the road and lots of benches to take a break. Lots of people around, particularly on sunny weekends, with cafés and snack stands.

Dee Banks is a beautiful section of path that's brilliant for cyclists it's a 10km path that runs from garden city to Chester and beyond 😀
