The Bridgewater Canal connects Runcorn, Manchester and Leigh, in North West England. It was commissioned by Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, to transport coal from his mines in Worsley to Manchester.

A great NT property worth a look around

Nice old house with beautiful gardens

Tatton Hall was built in 1716 with improvements made in the early 1800s and again in the late 1800s. The centrepiece of Tatton Park, the house is owned by the National Trust but looked after and managed by Cheshire County Council.

Dunham Massey is a 400-year-old country mansion and estate with formal gardens and a 300-acre deer park. National Trust owned and managed members can visit for free, but non-members must pay entry fee for the house, gardens and parkland. There are a couple of footpaths through the deer park so if you aren't a member and would like to walk through without paying stay on the footpaths. There is a cafe, gift shop and toilets on site.

Canal path is now completed. You do not need to be a member to use the shop and cafe or toilets as access is in the main building. Never seen so many cycle frames to secure your bikes.

The grand estate at Tatton Park boasts a neo-classical mansion, 50 acres of landscaped gardens, 1,000 acres of ancient deer park, a medieval Old Hall and even a rare breed farm. A fun day out to visit - or just take in the views as you cycle by. Looked after by the National Trust, tickets are required for all entries including NT members.

Cycling is now banned on certain sections of the tow path along the Bridgewater Canal, between Lymm and Dunham Massey, for example, so watch the signs carefully.

RHS Bridgewater opened on the 18th May 2021. The 154-acre garden in Salford, Greater Manchester, is the biggest hands-on horticultural project undertaken in Europe since planning permission was granted in 2017. Around 7.8 million people living within an hour’s journey time of the garden will be able to access world-class horticultural inspiration and expertise at the first-ever RHS Garden to be located in an urban area. It's expensive, as you'd expect. There's the gardens, cafe and RHS shop. Noticed that it looked like they were working on a cycle path that will lead from the Bridgewater canal to the site (as of 30th May 2021) but it wasn't open yet.

Lovely trail/bridal way. Plenty of people out using in weekends.

Great in Autumn seeing the deer in rutting season

Nice flat surface, easy enough for beginner riders. Can get muddy easily & can be hard to ride on thinner tyres.

Nice trail, which is a mixture of paths, gravel and mud. Plenty of walkers, cyclists and horses, so care needs to be taken for your own safety, as well as others. Plenty of narrow gates to pass through, had to get off my bike at a few. Overall a pleasant experience to cycle along.

You are not allowed to cycle in the park, however it is nice place to have a break.
