„Today the Salt Line runs through farmland and woodlands, with streams, pools and rough grassland. Wild primroses brighten up the steep cutting at Roughwood Hollow while later in the year the delicate flowers of scabious and harebell can be seen on the banks. Areas of willow and hazel are coppiced regularly. This is an ancient woodland practice in which trees are cut every few years to produce timber that would have been traditionally used for thatching spars, barrel hoops, hurdles and baskets. Sheltered glades are created where flower and insects thrive, until the trees re-grow and the process begins again. Some areas are managed as wild flower meadows while others are left fairly wild and just cut back enough to keep the path clear. when the coffee shop is busy there is an ice cream vending machine next to the cafe door

make sure you buy your bottle from the bottle vending machine first before going to the milkshake machine

Pull off the road to see a beautiful clear view across the fields of the Jodrell Bank observatory

Very quiet, but the surface has deteriorated badly, especially near the top. Look out for the owl 🦉🦉

A pleasant lane nice during autumn and early spring. You can often spot Blur Bells growing along the way.

Nice quiet, straight and fairly flat country road. The area is quite agricultural, but there is heath land to the west.

good place to stop to quench your thirst. fresh ice cold milk sold by the litre or milk shake's various flavours. tip if you have a milkshake use a 2 litre bottle (empty bottles are provided) as with the milkshake syrup and the milk the 1 litre bottle will overflow!!!! open from very early in the morning till 9.30pm takes cash (coins ) or contactless payments. Also has a nice padded bench which is under cover.

Just off a main road is this quiet country lane which also has a short step free access to good canal path

Can be passed on a bridge to the side. You dont have to go through the water. Lovely small quiet road to get there

Cyclists are asked to dismount on part of the trail due to rabbit burrows. Fabulous for families, and hikers too

Lovely highlight on a fast road

Fabulous little coffee shop on South Street, not on the busy main road, with a lovely outdoor area. The coffee, provided by Kickback, is expertly prepared by the lovely owner, Anna, and the soup, sandwiches and cakes are to die for!!

Perfect place for those willing a satisfying milkshake after a boggy ride. They even sell raw milk so what not to like...Oh, and don't forget some monies with you as the vending machine does not accept contactless payment as of March 09 2024
