lovely canal bridge, head left along disused section of canal to pick up old railway line towards newark.

An easily spotted landmark when riding the lanes west of Grantham. There's a great flattish run from Harby through the vale to Bottesford or ride up (and down) onto the ridge on which the castle stands for some great, short climbs.

One of the top 100 climbs. Fairly short and ramps up as you go easing off after the s bend

A great route but some sections are extremely muddy but great fun. Toft hill climb is one section that really works legs, slow and steady wins out

Regularly explore this end of the Vale of Belvoir lane network and stop at the 'Dirty Duck' pub for lunch. See the duck ornament on the roof and you will understand the name!

Belvoir Castle sits ontop of a hill rising over the valley of Belvoir, commanding views of North Leicestershire for many miles. The house has been the ancestral home of the Dukes of Rutland with the family living at Belvoir for almost a thousand years. The land was a gift from William the Conqueror to one of his Normal barons who fought for him at the Battle of Hastings 1066. The house and gardens can be visited with a cafe to take a break. A short hill with an average 7% gradient, with a mid-section that reaches 15%. You will have gained about 80 metres elevation at the summit.

You will find Woolsthorpe Lock on the end of the fabulously named Dirty Duck Lane. The bridge over the Grantham Canal provides a fantastic viewpoint to take in a rest from your ride, as does the nearby Rutland Arms pub on Woolsthorpe Wharf. There is a good quality gravel towpath alongside the canal, which you may find suitable for road bikes, depending on your tyre width and comfort levels on a looser surface.

Note: The nice little independent Cafe Allez has now been replaced by the castle run coffee shop so they could cut out the people who built it up from nothing. Up to you if you want to give them your business.

Good roads that circle the castle, can use them to make a good route for the family, a bit lumpy but enjoyable and the roads are fairly quiet.

An idyllic place with beautiful surroundings great food, drink and hospitality at a great price!! Easily accessible and cater for all!!

Not far away from 'fantastic cafe serving excellent coffe and cake' featured in a recent komoot posting. This road provides a relatively easy route SW overlooking the Vale. At its southern end, ride through Eastwell and take the steep descent of Waltham Lane to Harby. You can then return along flat roads, finally to climb back up to Belvoir and the cafe and carpark.

Also the location of a round of the National Firework Championships each August. A great event, with 4 x 10 minute displays. Well worth going there around the time that this is on. Some challenging climbs around here, with the flat Vale of Belvoir, if you like easier rides.

Very handy shop on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir. Takes card payments with no minimum purchase.

The Grantham canal offers some nice riding. Woolsthorpe lock offers you the chance to head back toward Belvoir castle on the tarmac.

Good cafe but opening hours are not really cycling friendly. Only opens at 11am on a Sunday.
