The Errwood Circular route offers panoramic views during the 7.2 km walk, which should take around 2 hours. It's advised to wear walking shoes or boots, especially after rain, as the narrow path on the far side can get muddy.

Love the reservoirs at Macclesfield Forest. Great to see the reflections in the water on a calm day.

Brilliant place to visit and easy to walk to from Errwood Hall Car Park - Buxton SK11 0AR. Great little work with a doggo by your side, especially when the ice cream van is around which also sells doggo ice cream for £2.50 a tub!! Treat for the furry friend :)

6월 14, 2022, Etherow Country Park Lake and Weir
The Park itself first of all started off as part of the “Andrews” estate originating in the 1820’s. At the time it incorporated a mine, a cotton mill and the lake. Later on in 1968 it became one of England’s first country parks, and now attracts over a quarter million visitors a year. They come to enjoy the natural beauty of ancient woodland along the river valley; in the foothills of the Peak District National Park. Mr George Andrew originally built the mill and made the man made lake (Canal). He also required a large workforce for the operation of the mill; so George also built a lot of the houses, along with the Church and School. Also a lot of the street names are named after members of the Andrew’s family. Etherow Country Park has steadily grown over the years, and now covers an area of around 200 acres. It lies at the heart of the Etherow-Goyt Valley, this is also the start of The Goyt Way, which is a 10 mile walk to Whaley Bridge. The River Etherow flows through the park which is the source for the lakes and was originally used as a reservoir to power the water wheel; which in turn provided motorized power for the cotton mill. Later on, they used the canal to transport coal for heating and keeping the cotton dry, via a horse drawn canal barge from further downstream. One of the water wheels (Big Lily) that powered the mill would use 50 million gallons of water per day; which would come down the canal and pass through what is now the car park to drive “Big Lilly”

Toddbrook Reservoir opened in 1838 and is sited above the town of Whaley Bridge in the Derbyshire High Peak area of England. The reservoir is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) providing habitats for herons, ducks and other animals & fish, while rare mosses & liverworts grow on its shores, particularly short-lived species that grow on seasonally exposed mud. The reservoir's dam is built from earth with a puddle clay core. On 01-Aug-2019, a single slab of the dam’s spillway chute collapsed after heavy rain, triggering the evacuation of parts of Whaley Bridge and the surrounding area, due to the possibility of the dam collapsing. Since the near disaster of the dam breach, the path around the reservoir is still closed.

Etherow Country Park is rich in wildlife. The park is home to over 200 species of plants and more than a hundred species of birds have been recorded here. The park has its own nature reserve which is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The reserve is managed solely by Cheshire Wildlife Trust and there is now a short permissive footpath through the SSSI with access to a bird hide overlooking the River Etherow. The wide variety of habitats within the park allow an abundance of wild plants to thrive here. With the exception of mid-winter, plants are easily spotted throughout the year. Look out for flora such as Dog's Mercury, Wood Anemone, Hedge Woundwort and Common Spotted Orchid, among many others. The many areas of woodland in the park provide an ideal home for a variety of wild plants and animals. Etherow Country Park provides ideal hunting territory for a variety of birds of prey. Tawny Owls hunt frequently in the Keg woodlands. Etherow Country Park was once part of the estate of George Andrew, who built Compstall mill in the 1820's. Compstall village was also built by Andrew to house his mill workforce. The waterways which you can see today were also built by Andrew to carry water from the weir on the river to turn the mill wheel, which stood where the car park is today. Andrew was also fond of shooting and fishing and the Keg woods and pool were his own private shooting and fishing grounds. Nowadays these areas are a quiet sanctuary for a variety of wildlife.

Lovely area, very popular with fishermen and walkers. Loads of parking thereabouts and good to see no heigh restriction barriers. Good start point for a hike up Shining Tor.

Fast. Really, really fast. But: The incline steepens and the corners sharpen the closer you get to the bottom, so beware (especially of oncoming vehicles ascending since there isn't always passing room). Otherwise the surface is largely good and free of loose material unless there has been heavy rain, which tends to wash grit across the surface of the road. Have fun!

One of the UK’s first country parks, Etherow was founded in 1968. It was originated as the Andrews Estate in the 1820s and included a mine, a mill and a mill pond. The park is the start point for the Goyt Way, a 10-mile (16.1 km) route along the Goyt Valley to Whaley Bridge. Today, the park is a local nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. A range of habitats can be found on the 32-acre (12.8 ha) site. Open water, tall fenn, reed swamp, carr and mixed deciduous woodland all provide for the wildlife that make the reserve so vibrant.

Toddbrook Reservoir is a gorgeous setting above the town of Whaley Bridge, often referred to as the ‘gateway to the Goyt Valley’. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, due to the many bird species it supports, including herons and ducks. It’s a popular spot for walkers, as well as for sailing, fishing and canoeing. It was originally built to be a feeder for the Peak Forest Canal and opened in 1838.

Errwood Reservoir is a drinking-water reservoir in the Peak District National Park, within the county of Derbyshire and very close to the boundary with Cheshire. The reservoir was the second of two reservoirs built in the Goyt Valley, the other one being its neighbour Fernilee Reservoir. There is a beautiful 5-mile (8 km) circular walk around Errwood reservoir with some amazing panoramic views and a lovely 3-mile (4.8 km) circular walk around Fernilee reservoir if you wanted to combine both.
