Scenic bridge providing a quiet route over the Welland into Deeping.

There are 2 pubs near the bridge and a couple of cafes in village centre within 1/4 mile. Get a coffee and sit by the river for a good rest stop.

Yes, it is pretty nice, and an interesting high street rather than all clone stores as well.

The Bottle Lodges were built in 1801 to celebrate the Earl’s elevation to the title of 1st Marquess of Exeter. They are based on the surviving lodges for Old Campden Manor, Chipping Campden, built around 1613.

The Bottle Lodges mark the original horse & coach entrance to Burghley House from the Great North Road.

Among the many architectural highlights, go to Rutland Terrace (see map) to see a classic Georgian terrace, and the Meadows is a great place to sit on a bench or the grass by the river and people-watch.

The Packhorse Bridge at Deeping St. James was built in 1651, just after the English Civil War. The bridge is narrow, with refuge ledges either side of the bridge for pedestrian safety. A marker on the side of the bridge indicates the high level of the water during the floods of 1880.

Stamford is a very pretty town with a lovely old High Street. Lots of good cafes to stop for a break.

It's situated where the counties of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland meet and it is the end point of the Jurassic Way long-distance trail. The nearby Burghley House and grounds – designed by the famous Capability Brown – make for an interesting day out, while a walk along the river and up to the village of Easton on the Hill is also gorgeous.
