Godnow Bridge railway station was a small railway station on the line between Doncaster and Keadby. Now it is a great little bridge to cross over the Stainforth and Keadby canal.

8월 24, 2023, St Nicholas Church
St Nicholas Church is a beautiful historic church and is a Grade I Listed building dating back to the 12th Century. The Nave of the church was built in the 12th Century, the South Aisle in the 14th Century and the South Porch in the 15th Century. A beautiful example of a post Norman medieval church.

The bridge here across the canal is a swing bridge. When the lights are flashing on the road, the bridge is open and a watercraft is travelling through.

Nice little cafe at the Iron Horse Saddlery. Loads of cakes to choose from plus paninis and soup if you fancy a bit more to eat. It was pretty busy when we called in so the service was a bit slow (it was the day after new years day and not many places were open) but the staff are really friendly so it's all good if you're not in too much of a rush. They're open every day and on Thursdays the stay open late until 7.30pm: https://www.ironhorseequestriansupplies.co.uk/hayloft-tea-room/.

9월 24, 2020, Stainforth and Keadby Canal Towpath
We picked this up just outside Thorne and rode all the way to Keadby, just outside Scunthorpe. Made a nice traffic-free change to riding on the flat, straight roads (which aren't very exciting). It's a good-quality gravel track that forms part of the Isle Greenway cycle route.

Looooooooooooong section of towpath gravel. I had a STRONG headwind going west, i imagine this is the case most of the time as its so flat out there and we rarely get a westly wind

The fine church is Grade I listed and dates mainly from the 12th and 13th centuries with earlier and later additions. It is cruciform in shape and has two side aisles. There are traces of Norman windows and pillars. It is likely that the original church at Thorne was Saxon built or at least preconquest. The lighting has recently been reordered which shows off the interior to good effect. There are many things to see in this beautiful church including a medieval clerestory and font and a 17th century Royal Coat of Arms. See also the spectacular stained glass (including a window by Sir Henry Holiday) and the splendid rood screen (1948). The chancel has traces of Norman windows. The south porch is an ornate piece of 15th century work and a rare stone coffin can be seen nearby. It was discovered in the 18th century and is thought to date to preconquest times.
