The Trans Pennine Trail is a super good route linking the North and Irish seas across the Pennines. From coast to coast, starting at Hornsea and finishing at Southport, is 212 miles (341 km) long. If you take in all the side route detours on the way, the distance rises to 343 miles (552 km). It uses rivers and canals and passes through some of the best historic towns and cities in England. This section that by passes Conisbrough is a super section, especially if you take a very short detour to go over Consibrough Viaduct or have a break in the town itself. Otherwise, the river section alongside the Don River is super scenic and a great ride.

First words? "wow". This thing makes you feel tiny! It's like a little reward for people who appreciate these small things!

It's a great view and well worth stopping for a look over the edge. It's quite a long way down though!

I approached this from the woods east of the tower, it was abit of a hike a bike but it was very fun. We then got a nice decent off the hill. If you fancy a lil adventure I would try this.

You don't have to carry bike over the water the water gor the first one you can come off earlier through where a fence is brocken and follow the worn track around and down a hill and it brings you out at the other side of the first kissing gate if you follow the road at the second kissing gate and up a path on the right it will bring you out on to field which you can follow along the side of which in turn bring you to the quarry top but it is worth the rock climb to continue the don gorge track.

he magnificent Conisbrough viaduct is impossible to overlook with its 21 arches, 150 foot lattice iron girder span over the river, and 1,527 feet in length. Opened in 1909, it was part of a connection between the Hull & Barnsley Railway and those of the Great Northern and Great Eastern. It consists of more than 15 million bricks, and features some beautiful decorative brickwork. It is so vast that an aerial ropeway was built to carry men and materials across the valley during its construction

Section of the TransPennine Trail on the old railway line viaduct over the river Don. Great views across to Conisbrough Castle. Don’t look over the edge if you’re scared of heights though - it’s a long way down!

You'll have to leave your bike at the gate (or hoik it over) to take a closer look at Hoober Stand, but it's such a strange building that it's worth the effort. The tower stands 30-metres-high on a ridge in hoober, close to the estate of Wentworth. The folly was commissioned by the Whig aristocrat Thomas Watson-Wentworth, Earl of Malton (later the 1st Marquess of Rockingham) and designed by Henry Flitcroft to commemorate the quashing of the 1745 Jacobite rebellion. There's a nice plaque above the door explaining it's origins.

Ok so on the other side of the don, is a lovely cycle way with beautiful paths and gravel. so if you want a leisurely ride take that. This is also technically a walking route.... there are 2 gates that you cant get your bike through, first time you can go near the water and carry your bike round, and the second time you have to carry your bike up a huge pile of boulders and then down again. Buuuuuuuut this was alot of fun, there are some down hill MTB trails, fallen bridges and other ruins. getting out at the otherside was a PAIN, the paths werent where komoot said they where. All in all, would do again.

The Transpennine Trail runs through RSPB wetlands so it’s a great place to visit by bike. It has a really good visitors centre and cafe too.

You can use the viaduct to cross over the river, this gives you great views of the valley and Consiborough castle. Or there is a gravel trail which goes underneath the viaduct and the follows the river away from Conisborough, choose this route if you want to see the viaduct in its full magnitude
